Poll lots of broken launch games and scummy practices like on disc DLC. Will you keep preordering games this gen? (16 votes)

Yes, i have faith the industry will become more competent as this gen ages 25%
No, these problems are too common id rather wait until they're working properly 94%

im not going to be pre ordering anything anymore. im dying to play Bloodborne and not even that game will get me to pre order it ive lost all faith in games working properly. TLOUr had issues with mp and so does halo both are each respective systems top games and they cant be bothered to make sure things work anymore.

I only pre-order niche games and products that I know have limited prints. Pre-ordering hyped blockbusters is LOLNO.

Don't forget release date/post-release date review embargoes or review copies. There are also review embargoes which restrict the content of a review, e.g. can't show more than 10 mins video footage, or even downright "can't give negative review".

I'm kind of a hypocrite I never normally preorder and voted no but I did preorder Halo MCC for X1 and DA Inquisition for PS4. I lucky with MCC (I'm mainly interested in the single player campaigns) and DAI has had great reviews but generally it's a really, really bad idea. I won't do it again, sorry everyone *sits in corner with dunces hat*.

This.

And Unity being broken? Welcome to AC3. I'm not defending it, I'm just saying this shit, unfortunately, happens. I'll preorder whatever I'm interested in. That's about it.

I think they do it because they just can't wait to play it. Stupid, I know but hey games are an obsession. It wasn't as much an issue before as it is now though since every publisher and their mom has decided to slap review embargos on everything so you have no idea what you're going to get. Since that's happened in the last month I preorder nothing under any circumstances. AC Unity is a good sign of how it's all going to pan out with this embargo shit.

I never preorder games.. Unless there is huge incentive to do so. Cost only.

To answer you question though.

I'm defiantly not accepting the BS practices these CEO suits are feeding.

This has nothing to do with the actual developers. Poor basterds.

It's all greedy suits protecting the bottom line at our expense.

Fucking scums,

Pretty much this.

It did turn around and bite me in the ass when I preordered XCOM: Enemy Within for the PS3. It had game breaking bugs and played more like a beta than a finished product. Still not patched to this day.

Thats a dumb Question.... Ofcourse people are going to keep preordering games... If Gamers had spines we wouln't be in this situation in the 1st place.

The only time I've seen the community show even alil back bone was with the initial Microsoft DRM Policy...

It seems like thats the threshold, publishers will do whatever they want, as long as they stay away from DRM then they're safe.

I've never pre-ordered a game. At least not in the sense of pre-purchasing to get exclusive features or something else. If I pre-order it's simply to know where my money is going by putting a payment down and knowing I've sorted it out. It's about convenience and normally something I do close to release, not months before because a trailer told me I should. In these cases whether the game is good or not is sort of besides the point, I want to play it to experience it, even if it sucks.

....How is that topic title so long???

Anyway, I'll only pre-order if I'm interested, and/or If think the game will sell out.

I will keep doing my $5 pre-orders. If the game turns out to suck then you don't have to pick it up. You can just cancel after the fact and put the $5 towards something else. Simple as that.

I pre-order Nintendo 3DS games, otherwise if I don't then GameStop won't carry new copies beyond the initial order. For everything else though, I don't bother. They don't offer incentives anymore for doing so, and the practice is awful, it skews the inventory they do get and decide to carry.

There are VERY few games (if any) that I pre-order. Hell I just picked up the "Day Zero Edition" of COD by walking in the store the day it released. They had about 50+ copies available so I was able to get all of the "perks" without pre-ording sh!t!

..and to your point about quality. I'll be that much more hesitant to purchase a product if I know it has some major network flaws.

Pre-ordering is stupid imo unless you save money. I remember when they first started doing pre-orders back in like the PS1 or PS2 days. It was stupid then. The argument was that the game might sell out so you should preorder. Real stores stocked a decent amount of games so this was never an issue unless you were in like San Fran or some other hipster place that banned all large retail outlets.

Last gen they switched from the dumb selling out argument to now they'll throw in some shitty weapon/item that you'd never want to use anyways or added some garbage levels that wouldn't have made the cut to be pressed to disc in prior gens.

Why bother unless you're a zombie consumer that will by anything thrown in front of them?

I pre-ordered The Witcher 3 and I feel a bit guilty. Luckily CDPR is one of the more credible developers, but I still should have waited.

I wouldn't in a million years pre-order a Ubisoft or EA games, hell - I more or less avoid them completely...

Unless its a niche game that isn't in high demand then no.

AAA games HAHAHAHAHA NEVER! You can always find copies on day 1 if you want it. I prefer reading reviews and watching gameplay before giving up $50

I generally only pre-order Nintendo games to ensure I get a copy right away. Nintendo hasn't yet succumbed to these questionable practices. They've been known to spend almost an entire year just polishing and testing a title.

However, I'm not sure about what they're doing with Hyrule Warriors though... That's a bad sign IMHO in terms of DLC. I skipped that title though.

Yep I will... From Nintendo because they actually know how games are supposed to be made and completed before they launch.

I'm pretty much forced to in order to secure a copy at my local GameStop. They only order enough to cover the pre orders. It's not like the old days where you could walk in day one and buy a game.

Last time I tried to buy a game with no pre order was when Diablo ps4 edition came out, and they were like " You gotta pre order man" so I went to Amazon.

The thing is I'm too cheap to pay for release day shipping and I hate waiting for the mail, so I have no choice.

Also other big retailers like target/Walmart/ best buy only get a ton of copies of COD and madden and don't really carry much else.

I stopped pre-ordering games like 10 years ago when I realized that I could run into a gamestop and grab the game regardless of whether or not I pre-ordered it, and now with steam, I don't see the point.

Preorders are pointless imho. And will be more pointless because people will have big trust issues with big games being broke at launch.

Preordering games that have limited copies (Xenoblade) is a great idea.

I don't preorder games much. This year I think it was just Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD and Dreamfall Chapters. Honestly these days I hardly buy anything at launch either.
