Great Numbers so far

Earlier this month we announced that Kinect hit the million mark in 10-days. We got some new numbers to share: With the help of Black Friday last week, Kinect has now sold over 2.5 Million units around the world

That is VERY impressive. But my question is: How many people have already felt that they got their money's worth by now? And how buyers are still waiting to get their money's worth? I mean we're talking $150 peripheral. Surely, not everyone could have felt they got their money's worth already.

Anyone assuming Kinect would fail in sales needs serious help. Failing in software line-up and utilization of the motion controller is a different story though :P

It seems to have tons of support from the mod community and the initial launch line-up featured some good games. I'm interested in those announced Japanese "core" games.

I'm honestly pretty surprised that they've made their 100k/day sale rate.

Still, judging by the stacks of Kinects still available at big box stores, they might not make their 5 million units by 2011 goal.

if you look at comsumer reviews amazon, newegg, bestbuy reviews, most people seem to enjoy their purchase of Kinect. I know 150 is a lot of money, but what for your getting I think its worth it. The Rock Band and Gutiar Hero sold at 150 when they were launch. Which one do you think has the better value.

Yup, naturally. MS marketed well and released at a pretty good time (close to Thanksgiving and Christmas).

The mod community has done some really cool stuff. I actually really enjoyed Kinect Sports, but i'll wait to see what games are offered further down the road before I buy one.

Kinect a success? No way, but all the haters in SW were saying it was gonna fail. What happened?

Its on pace for 4.5 - 5 million before the end of the year.

I've seen plenty of kinect commercials, including trial systems in the super markets like Tesco.

Regardless, we know they spend $500m just in advertising.

You're right about the first part, still doesn't change it is a ridiculous sum of money; that could have gone to actual games. In regard to the second part; Tesco is a big UK retailer, think our Wallmart.

I don't like the motion sensors being pushed by consoles, any of them. So keep that in mind before suggesting I'm criticising kinect just because it is a Microsoft brand motion sensor.

It is getting my criticism at this particular moment, because they are probably spending more money on marketing Kinect; than they have spent developing every Halo game combined. I consider it a waste of money that could have been invested on consoles actual purpose, games.

And that number is with some huge shortages, in fact would have sold double or triple if it was not sold out everywhere

So, if MS can provide stock, will definatly reach 5-10 million sales this holiday

And that 2.5 million is in the 25 days BEFORE the Christmas shopping season which is from black Friday to Christmas eve. Even if they only keep up that pace they will easily make 5 million by years end, I expect them to break that target.

EDIT: It seems the 2.5 million includes black Friday sales so maybe they aren't on track to break 5 million but they will certainly reach it.

Actually xbox 360 is sold out completly in US Amazon right now, not a single xbox 360 in stock, so my guess is that has helped 360 sell 10x more than it normally would

http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-4GB-Console/dp/B003O6JKLC/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1291059227&sr=1-1

Also Kinect sales are important, since the more gamers own Kinect, the more developers will make games for it

Not that I'm a huge fan of the Kinect, but I always found it a bit ridiculous when people started saying that it wouldn't sell well. My local Bestbuy has both the Kinect and the Move sitting side-by-side for the customers to try out and there's always a line for the Kinect while the Move collects dust. I'm always hearing people in the background saying stuff like "Wait, are you telling me that you don't have to use a controller? I have to get this!" Kinect is simply more appealing to the masses.

I believe so but keep mind sony counts each device individually. A household only needs 1 kinect while another with move could potentially have 2 move wands, 2 sub controllers and a camera(not sure if sony actually counts this). On a business side of things MS makes more profit with each sold if rumors are correct. I personally expect them to put up similar hardware numbers though. It's wait and see for software though.

Move numbers were shipped

Also Kinect was out of stock since launch and sold out everywhere, if MS had 10 million out, would have been sold by now too

Also xbox 360 is sold out everywhere too, it is impossible to find them online in US

Also Kinect was out of stock since launch and sold out everywhere, if MS had 10 million out, would have been sold by now too

Also xbox 360 is sold out everywhere too, it is impossible to find them online in US

Sorry, I am a kinect fan and everything but that is ridiculous.

All of our local gamestop's/walmarts/bestbuys have maintained stock of Kinect. Microsoft has been shipping them like crazy to make sure they're in stock. Also, it should be noted I am around big cities. Denver-Colorado Springs area.

Even when I picked up my kinect there were huge stacks of them.

The sales are great, but let's not be unrealistic. If there were 10 million at launch atleast 5-6 million of those would be sitting on shelves until Later next year.

[QUOTE="MFDOOM1983"]4.5 million by years end.JohnF111

If they get to 4.5 million, I think that will be good. So much for Kinect failing

lol everyone knew it would succeed, it's the thing in general that just plain sucks... And how many of them are american i would like to know... 2mill probably.

It is the most advanced motion controls on the market by miles, so how does it suck ?

It is also getting 12+ hardcore games in future, made only for Kinect
