Is Sunset Overdrive a ripoff of Infamous?

So I just saw gameplay from Sunset Overdrive for the first time from the new commercial.

Half way through the commercial I'm thinking, "what is this, some cheesy new DLC for Second Son?" The game looks exactly like Infamous Second Son with worse graphics and a cheesier character which I find crazy because the Delson guy from Infamous seems like such a douche bag. What I'm trying to figure out is where is all the hype for this game coming from? It looks like a watered down version of a game most Lems bash all the time.

In other news all FPS games ripoff from other FPS games cuz pew pew.

It's actually the gameplay of Ratchet and Clank fused with an Infamous/Dead Rising sandbox game.

No, and I don't need to play it to draw a comparison because none of us have played Sunset Overdrive anyways. Anyone saying they know how Sunset Overdrive plays is basing it strictly off of gameplay videos. Fact of the matter is, when you watch that commercial, does it not look exactly like infamous with worse graphics?

Game built on shooter combat, except all the guns are lightning vs a game built around running around and shooting more in the vein of Ratchet n Clank right down to ridiculousness of the weapons.

No way, maybe the basic that there is a lot of grinding on rails in those games. But Jet Set Radio was all fun and dope, this looks all aight and not dope.

i have no idea how or why cows are trying to compare this game to infamous. nothing alike, besides them both being open world games.

there's been too much good MS/Xbox news lately....cows are starting to melt down it seems. all their posts just seem angrier, resentful...and just nonsensical. like how they were all of last gen.

the on rails shooting reminded me of infamous on the train tracks....but it shows other things as well. That alone brought down my hype for the game...i didnt like that part of infamous, but hopefully its not mostly that....i think this is going to get a 9

No cus the DLC for Second Son sucked and was bareboned. Not even gonne talk about the game itself... Sunset Overdrive looks much better.

Well according to video game law only one game of every type is allowed to exist.

This game is closer to crackdown than Infamous. Who creates a thread after watching a TV commercial? You dont have youtube or twitch where you can watch the first two hours of the game played by dozens of people? SMH

No I'd say it's more like dead rising and crackdown. Which is where I'm sure infamous got it's inspiration. And all of those games got their inspiration from GTA3...see how that all works

Remember: Lems, "luz Infamous is sand box game with no Day/Night cycle? No buy haha". Yet Sunset Overdrive is a sandbox game with no day/night cycle and coming out over half a year later than Infamous and we haven't hear a word from lems about that missing feature, just OMG SSOD amazing!!!111. keh..

Lems always get amnesia when they are called out on their flop flop hypocrisy on things they try to dis when it's a Sony game and then hype to no end when the same things or game types are for xbox games.

Not really. I would say it's dumb of the people who criticized and hated on everything that Infamous was to be full steam fanboying the hell out of SSOD looking at how similar they are, and if you go to the Infamous Second Son hype thread that would be most lemmings.

So in essence you are just saying most lemmings are dumb.

Yes it does but SO has actual enemies, hectic pace, 8 player Co-op, weapons galore, player creation, and lastly fun. Outside of those things they are twins.

Neither lemming nor cow... but man Sunset Overdrive looks leagues ahead of Infamous. Not necessarily graphics wise, but it actually looks fun to play.

I will give SO that one thing, and I feel that killed what ISS could have been and that is Co-op and multiplayer.

After playing Infamous I felt that was the biggest flaw in the game, though most people tried to defend the fact that it didn't need it, was the lack of multiplyer. I felt if it had it, it would have pushed it over to AAA status and be a better over-all game.

For that reason, if the reviewer genuinely likes SO (this is the kind of game you either like it or you don't) then the multipler could be the decision making factor to go AAA vs AA like Infamous ended up being. The AA score Infamous means the reviewer DID very much like infamous but it was just short lived without anything extra to hold on to.

To be clear I always thought both Infamous and SSOD looked good, they are essentially the same type of games just with different tones.
