Is Gears Judgement one of the best examples of milking a series?

This is not a hate thread. I played all three of the previous Gears games and enjoyed them for the most part. Under all the ultra violence and bromance a interesting and sometimes deep story was to be found. The gameplay was fun and the multiplayer was different. With that all being said, why does Gears Judgement even exist? It can't be a fan service, I was excited to continue the main story with Marcus, but who wanted a full game featuring the annoying sarcastic baird? Gears 3 wrapped up the story, and even released a prequel-esq DLC at one point(Rams shadow?). So why do we really need to go back again? Maybe there is just something I ain't seeing.

because theres still a good lot of Cole's story to tell.

Same could be potentially said for Killzone, i'd love to see a prequel and i'll always stand by the ideology if the milks good why complain.

Depends on whether it's good and whether or not it has anything new to add to the franchise.

If it manages to do both of those, I'd say no. Otherwise...

i can kinda see an interesting spin with Gears Judgement, and so far i'm liking Halo 4's launching of a new trilogy (currently playing through it).

God of War : Ascension , while i have not played it, just screams to me milkage - in the understanding of the term.

I don't view it as milkage if your doing something interesting with the franchise, but if your story or universe is pretty much tapped out, then you should lay it to rest and do something new.

God of War is literally done, the only thing i'm hearing about GOW:A is the damn multiplayer, all we seem to get is just vague explanations about what the story is supposed to be about.

I want to see a Kinect-based Gears of War with rail-shooter style gameplay.

you had a point with R&C and GOW, should have quit while you were ahead.

Infamous , Resistance and Uncharted started this Gen which is 7 years old now. And Killzone only has 2 games this gen

Yes based on the concept that People Can Fly could have totally been working on a new ip instead.

Maybe No in the sense that they say on a gameplay level People Can Fly will put their own spin on things. I will believe that though, when I see it.

I think it looks like desperate milkage. That's why Epic handed it off to their B-team, PCF.

As far as they're concerned, they're done with the series, and want to move on. Obviously, Microsoft being the way they are, saw the potential for more money in the series, offered them a sh*tload of cash to make another.

Epic didn't want to necessarily make, because they're moving on to bigger and better things, and rightly so. So they thought they'd give their little mates in Poland a shot, because they they did a good job with Bulletstorm, which didn't sell well for a variety of reasons. Now with them making Gears, they're guaranteed to make a few million sales at least.

So, basically, I don't think it's bringing anything new to the table and you couldn't force me to buy it. I wish the series wouldhave ended with the masterpiece 3, but not so deep down, I knew it wouldn't.

That's fine, as long as they have powerful new technology to flex with.

A new engine in a new generation could give the series a kick up the arse, because Gears 3 was pretty perfect in most departments as far as gameplay goes. Not really sure how you could make enough improvements to warrant a sequel if you're still using UE3.

If he wanted to make a point, he should have included the PSP games and PSV and all the "collections" the Sony likes to release.

2 Resistance portable games, 1 Uncharted portable game, 1 released and 1 planned Killzone portable game, Killzone HD remake download, 1 Infamous download game.

And like I said literally every series listed above has 1-3 different "collections" that were released. While collections are good for new adopters, it is also a way for people to repurchase games they might have sold in the past now that is comes all as one package.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to another Gears game but TBH, I'd be a hell of alot more hyped if it was a Fall 2013 Next X launch title :o grx king confirmed. :D

Pretty much every Nintendo franchised has been milked so much that they were milking a dead cow years ago.

Maybe for someone who grew up in this gen. Mario, Sonic, MGS, CoD, etc are far more milked.

I guess in a sense it is milkage, not because of the number of games, but more that Microsoft are willing to just give the ip to another dev.

In terms of number of games though, no games are milked more than COD (2(debatable)/3/MW/MW2/MW3/W@W/BO/BO2/BOD) all in 7 years,

and AC (1/2/brotherhood/revelations/3/liberation) all in 6 years

I guess Mario also gets a good mention: (Tennis Open/Paper Mario/New Super Mario Bros. 2/Mario Party 9/Mario Kart 7/Mario Kart Wii/Super Paper Mario/Mario Galaxy/Mario Galaxy 2/AND Mario 3D Land) that is 10 games in 7 years...

No.. As one poster already stated we missed a VERY big part of the story with Gears 1 starting after the pendulum wars. However I couldn't stand Baird in the previous installments. I couldn't imagine him leading a group.. but I'm sure it'll turn out well.

However if they make another gears.. you can consider it milkage.

I kinda feel the same about OP said.. That being said I feel CoD games are way more milked than other game series. I loved Blops 2 though. But doesn't change the fact its being milked. Just sayin
