Is Final Fantasy 7 the most over rated game ever?

I personally don't think so. It's atually my fav game of all time, but if you disagree with me i would like to know why.

If you agree with me, i want to know your fav cutscenes, locations, characters etc from the game.

Um... no. It's a very good game. It was an incredible achievement at its time of release. People just hate it because it's very, very popular.

i've never played it, honestly, only VIII, X, X-2, XII, and XIII

I thoroughly enjoyed FFVII for a number of reasons, I understand the hate. People hate on popular things it's just how things work.

One thing that can be said about most RPGs (but JRPGs in particular) is that they stand the test of time well, mostly becasue the formula for them doesn't change much. Final Fantasy VII's main draw was it's story, which is just as strong now as it ever was.

It can't be the most overrated game ever when it's just as great now as it was then. Not too many other games can do that.

It was the most cinematic game ever created during it's prime. The story was incredible, the music was unsurpassed at the time, the cgi was cutting-edge(seriously). Anybody who ever fought the Weapons, summoned Alexander or Knights of the Round, watched the scene with Red XIII's dad, saw Aerith die, or experienced the one-wing angel theme and battle would know what a monumental game this was.

Nahh. It deserved all the praise/ popularity it got imo.

There's no way anyone can consider this game overrated with the likes of Call of Duty and Halo bopping around the place. ¬¬

Final Fantasy VII is an excellent game, there's not many games released these days that require 40+ hours work to complete (even the RPGs). It has an intriguing story, some interesting characters, witty dialogue and a whole lotta world to explore.

You guys nailed it. I remember playing half life 1 for the first time and thought, that's it? this is the game that won all those GOTY awards? What a joke! What i didn't factor in was that i played and 8 year old game. By that time the game felt old and uninspiring. However, what i didn't know was that all these new FPS model their games after HL1. It wasn't until I realized what HL1 did for the FPS market that i truly understood its greatness.

I think it's a special game that takes a certain attitude to appreciate what it does. For those that appreciate it, it leads to a lot of hype. For those who come to the game from that hype, they might not see it the same way.

half-life is one of those things that I tried so hard to enjoy that at one point it began to feel as if I was punishing myself. I don't even see why Valve is liked as much as it is.

So. I'm trying to make a list of the most overated games of all time, and I've finished it. EVERY GAME IS OVERATED!

The plot was lauaghably bad. It didn't deserve anything close to a 10.

Exactly. A lot of people now would look at FFVII or Half-life and laugh, but at the time these games brought a new level of cinematic gameplay and immersion. Facing Half-life marines for the first time was a legitimately frightening experience. They would adapt their tactics to how you played, and yell out commands. Can't explain to somebody who didn't play it at the time how disturbing that was. The fact that characters mouths moved when they talked was huge too. No joke.:lol:

Probably not "THE" most overrated game ever, but it's certainly up there. Just from a few hours of playing, it single-handedly made all of my friends, except for one, trade in their N64s for playstations.

Not really overrated since the reviews at the time were a bit divergent as it was. A lot of people enjoyed the story, world, and characters of the game. I don't think people even started calling the game overrated until years after the game had been out.

It's pretty good stuff, can't really comment on it being overrated since I try not to do that.

Most ever? No way to ever measure something like that.

Overrated, plain and simple? Definitely. People blow it out of proportion based on nostlgia. It was groundbreaking for the time, but what few people want to admit is that it also had a messy plot, terrible translation, and more than a few bugs.

Is it still enjoyable? Yes, to a point.

People feel better about themselves when they bash popular things.

Hell no. It was amazing. From what I've played, only FFX, Persona 4 and Demon's Souls surpassed it.

converting LTTP to 3D isnt a good game, well N64 didnt have many games, so they had to hold on to something

Haven't played it. So far, the most overrated game that I've played is definitley RDR.
