Poll Is Fallout 4 the worst looking big-budget game of 2015? (86 votes)

Yes 67%
No(specify) 33%

This game looks bad. Like beyond terrible. The animations are early PS3 quality. The character models look bland. The textures look atrocious. The art style doesn't even save it. This game looks BAD. I might have given it a pass if it was running at 60fps but this garbage dips to below 30 on the consoles. It truly looks awful.

Before any of you guys claim it's a great game. I'm not denying that(haven't even played it yet) but it looks terrible.

I've not seen it in person but if watching on Twitch counts, Yuck but I know, that's no way to judge. :P

Looks average now, but give it a few months on PC and it'll get into shape.

Yeah, it's ugly. Bethesda's games usually are. Fans will fix it for them.

Halo 5 is 60fps, that's a silverlining.

I honestly never understood the appeal of Halo, if it was any other game which released with such shitty graphics then I'm sure no one would play it.

Ah. I see you are referring to the console version.

While it may not look amazing compared to, say, The Witcher 3... It still looks good on ultra settings at ~100 fps on my PC.

Plus it's only a matter of time before modders get to it, and for the first time console owners can take advantage of mods (though probably not graphical enhancements without sacrificing even more performance).

MGSV looked mediocre, but at least it ran 60 frames per second. Fo4 chugs along at 30 fps and dibs way too often. What takes the resources then? Enemy AI? Draw distance? Please tell me. Also I didn't remember NPCs looking as bad in Skyrim, I might be wrong though, haven't played it for a while.

I thought MGS V looked way worse (comparing the two PC versions both maxed to the max). MGS V is probably more technically proficient but it has very ugly art direction and a very bland setting. Its a very boring take on realism.

How people praise that game's visuals is beyond me

I actually think during the day on Ultra, the game for the most part looks quite good, however night is a different story. Almost all the shaders are just completely gone, everything looks terribly dull, it's just an incredibly ugly looking game at night.

From what I've seen (haven't played it) Fallout 4 looks pretty rough around the edges, but MGSV definitely has a place in this discussion.

MGSV isn't an ugly game, but I'd say a good 70% of it could be described as bland looking. Interiors look great, some of the effects are nice, the lighting is great all around and some of the more specifically crafted natural environments look really good, particularly in Africa. The rest of it? Unless you catch a great sunrise or sunset, it's usually going to look pretty mundane. Excuses can be made all day, like how it's a cross gen game and it's their first game of this scale, but there is no getting around the fact that in 2015 it's not exactly a looker.

Now watch Gamespot give it best graphics of 2015 haha.

Vanilla, yes. With couple of light mods and lots AA, no. Halo 5 is the ugliest game of 2015. Praise MS. With the amount of shimmering, jaggies, ps360 textures (or worst...), 10fps animations Halo 5 is simply unbeatable in the uglyness department.

It's true but it's also the best. Didn't think anything would top Bloodborn for me this year but it did.

But yeah. It could easily be a PS360 game.

Atleast Fallout 4 have trees and light shaft

Halo 5 looks worse than Halo 4, artistically and technically. Fires disappear when you try to view them, PS2 quality pop up and it's running at 800p. But it's a graphics King according to Lems

Halo 5 isn't ugly but it looks distinctly last gen almost like a 1080p port of a 360 title. Halo 4 on MCC looks much better I honestly don't know what the **** 343 were doing to mess up Halo 5 so badly. The campaign sucks as well. I pre-ordered it and it was the biggest gaming disappointment I've had in a very long time. I'm still pissed off about it lol.

Halo 5 looks okay and even pretty good in places from what I have played. From what I have seen there are worse looking games like that tony hawk game and maybe even fallout 4, but I haven't played fallout 4 yet to 100% confirm this.

It's either this, THPS5, or Halo 5. PC with mods and Fallout 4 will be fixed. I am holding off on this as I don't buy Bethesda games at launch. I let the community make the game awesome first, then I pick it up.

Halo 5 in a lot of ways looks almost entirely like Halo 4, I'd actually argue 4 looks better in some places.

Haven't played the beta, from what I've seen it looks like an uprezzed ps360 game, the gpu requirements should be fairly low.

MGSV looks terrible? Wut?

The foliage, the detail in the environment, animations, the lighting, geometry. It's all great for a 1080p/60fps game.

Fallout 4 in parts looks worse than Assassins Creed 1 lol. It looks outdated already lol.

Yes. They are places the textures look kinda bad from what I have played. It's not that impressive, but I noticed the jump from halo 4 pretty easily. Some camapaign levels look good graphically while others are all over the place graphically.

I love how this starts with Fallout 4 and is switching over to Halo 5. God some of you guys really hate Halo 5...lmfao. I know on consoles; Fallout 4 might look like smeared dookie on a car window from what you guys are talking about, but I play it on PC, and it looks great to me. It will benefit greatly though with a texture mod.

Are you talking about Halo 4 on 360 or Halo 4 on MCC? I never played it on 360 but the remaster they did for MCC (and apparently they didn't do much work to it outside of upres and fps) looks much better than Halo 5. Better textures, better art design, the cut scenes look a LOT better too.

I honestly think Halo 5 SP was just shovelled out the door and they spent their entire dev time making the MP work and making sure everything was 60 fps. Halo 5 SP is easily the worst Halo game I've ever played and I've played them all.

I am talking about the 360 version of halo 4. The upgrade was noticeable compared to that game. Not sure if halo 4 mcc looks signficantly better than the 360 version of halo 4 since I haven't tried it yet.

I love all the ass clowns slamming Halo 5 in a Fallout thread. Clearly you never seen Halo 5 in person.

Fallout 4 looks like an improvement. That is good enough for me.

It looks pretty bad, but it shouldn't matter if it plays well. Unfortunately it's a buggy piece of ****. I'll get it for cheap once all the volunteer testers tell Bethesda what to fix.

If you're strictly talking about big budget games, Halo 5 is definitely up there. I find the game quite nice to look at personally. The art direction is pretty good, though I'm still not a fan of the glossy look that started with Halo 4. It definitely does't look worse than that game though...not sure what others are looking at.

It's Bethesda... my freaking ... Are all of you so young you haven't lived through a majority of Bethesda's games? Bethesda has never been the graphical leader, Skyrim is probably the only exception of them, it was the best graphical effort from them but yet it still failed to live up to Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Witcher 2, Final Fantasy and so many more in terms of visuals.

Fallout 4 is an actual upgrade to Fallout 3, it looks fine. Yes, it does not look as good as Dragon Age Inquisition, Witcher 3 and won't look as good as Mass Effect 4.

The game is fun though, and that's why most don't care. I love the W3 and DA:I, both are beautiful and also fun. But Fallout 4 is special as even as CD project and Bioware try open world they don't quite do it the same. But with those two I get a better story/narrative experience. Bethesda games are more about the adventure than the story. It's still very enjoyable and it's graphics are serviceable. Mainly having 1080p resolution and a good AA solution is enough to make it leaps and bounds over fallout 3.

But the thing is most gamers have to remember, WRPG devs such as CD project Red and Bioware just have better animators and artists. And to the most point better programmers as well, neither have released as buggy of a game any where the level of Bethesda. But Bethesda does open world game design unlike them. Bethesda just has really never employed the best Artists or Animators, but that is their choice. I really don't know what the payoff would be as they seem to not hire the best programmers either (or QA team), but instead have great game designers.

This is probably the ultimate form of Gameplay>Graphics. Bethesda gets it scores from good gameplay and that it's just fun. Games today including Fallout 4 are more than serviceable in terms of graphics. To the point no one should care anymore. (X1 gamers, getting an external drive 7200 rpm or higher/SSD will fix the pauses in the game.) Digital Foundry does have an article about solving this issue.

All in all everyone, Just never expect Bethesda to have leading graphics, animations. If you do then your only setting up for disappointment. But Bethesda does make very fun games in a true open world design. Their Environmental artists aren't half bad and can still create a pretty picture.

Just play the damn game and enjoy it for what it is. If your so hung up on how it doesn't match the Witcher 3 in visuals and let that hinder your experience then I'm sorry for you.

But your providing the ultimate example of Graphics>Gameplay. I like a good looking game, but I don't let that hamper a good game. Bethesda games look inferior to most, sometimes buggy to the point of frustration, but yet I find them fun and addicting. The graphics in Fallout 4 are just fine for what it is. I know some modders will do amazing stuff, but the core game Bethesda releases will be enjoyed because many just enjoy the game.

Bethesda just has a entire history of this, most of us older gamers have come to expect this from them. Their main interest isn't' in hiring the best Artists, and that's their choice. All of Bethesda game's I play with their own models/textures. I find when people start the graphic mods aside from some texture boosts create great instability to the game, even more than in the beginning.

I almost want current gaming tech to crash and make you people relive the NES/SNES/N64 days all in order. Spoiled Brats. Never though I would be 27 and calling out younger people as spoild brats... this early in my life. Play Zelda Ocarina of Time in 24fps and 240p, yeah, still fun as hell.

Just accept a game that's fun as a good game. Graphics are nice but don't make up the whole package.

Don't care, and you shouldn't either if you enjoy good games. If der graphics are all you care about quit gaming and just watch movies.

The graphics are bad, the game is bad, a lot needs fixing, for me F4 is a 6/10 game wrapped in AAA hype, I can't wait until the honeymoon period has worn off and people realize they have wasted so much time on this crap nugget of a game.

Don't care, and you shouldn't either if you enjoy good games.

Not the same type of game. Halo has looked better than every Bethesda open world games every generation and significantly better, even on consoles. Open world FPS should be compared to other open world FPS. You can't compare Fallout to Halo any more than you can compare Halo to COD which is even more scripted than Halo.

It's really best to compare them to the previous games in the series and personally I find them all a bit lacking in graphical fidelity but in terms of gameplay and game design Fallout 4 compares best with the previous games in the series.

@blizzard2188:

You have no clue, daggerfall was sort of technical milestone in open world gaming, morrowind was one of the first games to have modern shiny shader effects at that time and oblivion was one of the first games to implement hdr

You are a totally clueless fool
