This women is brilliant! she even acknowledges that it's love story is one of the greatest stories ever told.

I honestly thought FFIX was shit compared to the earlier games in the series.
I'd take IX over anything else on the PS1, to be honest. VIII just had the most irritating lineup of characters I've encountered in a game, as well as a stupid draw/equip system which means you can auto-attack the game to completion after 2 hours of grinding a card minigame a garden. FF VII is very good, but I think IX edges it on setting, for me.
VI > All, though.
One of my favorite games of all time. I wish Lead had articulated her reasons more clearly.
Also, is it sexist of me to roll my eyes when the female gamer gushes over the love story? (which is, btw, probably the best to date in videogaming)
It's probably worse for me to want to stamp on Greg Millers face because... That's his face.

Try out his podcast, maybe your hate will subside.
IX is definitely way better than VII or VIII.
and FF6 is better than all three of those combined
Sploosh
Fucking Cutscenes ! :o
her so called greatest story of all time is a damn movie ! Why do we even bother with gameplay !
They should shoulda just made a movie like FF VII.
Final Fantasy 7-9 hardly have any cutscenes at all. In that respect they are actually more advanced than the PS2/3 era games; mostly seamless integration in-and-out of dialogue (no 'cuts' to black. So not technically a 'cut' scene). Control is taken and given from the player without any obvious transition.
Nope
Yep. It's a masterpiece
Well, it's been like 10-11 years since I played it, but I do remember how FF7 & FF8 really pushed the series, while FF9 felt like they were playing it safe. You gotta remember when FF7 first came out it totally blew everyone away. FF8 was a nice twist, but FF9 felt very traditional.
@ Articuno76
If you wana get all "technical" then sure. But that level of non-interactivity is actually worse than cutscenes. So....
Bottom line is control is taken, hardly a sign of video games storytelling moving foward. Hence why a movie makes more sense if you don't like people doing stuff.
Haven't even played it.
Is it really better than Final Fantasy 6 though? That shit was so fuking amazing. One of my fav games of all time!
IX is definitely way better than VII or VIII.
You are incredibly correct
It's my favourite FF game but not the best game ever

Final Fantasy IX was meant to be traditional, because Final Fantasy 8 received alot of hate from the community. There is a reason why Final Fantasy 8 is the second most hated final fantasy game, behind the XIII Series. "I like final fantasy 8, by the way."
Gregg Miller is like a less funny version of Dane Cook.
Dane Cook is like a less funny version of an actually funny person.
On topic, everyone has their favorite in the series. It's hard for me to judge this one because I haven't played it and probably won't because I'm not into mmo's, but I have low standards for recent Final Fantasy's. They fell from grace years ago in my book.

It was posted on Valentine's Day, so that's why she was mainly focusing on the love story. While I wouldn't exactly consider it the very best romance in gaming, Zidane and Garnet do have some of the best chemistry in the series, with their relationship feeling natural rather than forced.
Also, female characters have always been a big part of what FF fangirls found appealing about the series, so that's kind of why her reasons focused so much on Garnet. And for what it's worth, she is one of the most well-written female characters in the series, almost like a Studio Ghibli heroine, i.e. a meek-looking girl who breaks out of her traditional gender role and builds up the inner strength to achieve great things. In other words, it's not difficult to see why a lot of fangirls would identify with Garnet.
That giggly casual bitch probably hasn't even played 15 minutes of Postal 2.
I haven't even played Postal 2 and I'm not a casual
IX is great but I'd say it's behind X and XII. Ahead of VII and way better than VIII or XIII though.

I refuse to believe that 8 is the second most hated FF Game when FF 12 exist. Now that game was garbage i couldn't even finish it. Specially with the Licensing Board that was awful. None of the characters are memorable all of them where dull as dirt. Except maybe for Basch or was it Balthier?
People who grew up with certain games seem to not want to move one and will pretend the games is better than everything else while also complaining about issues about the same game some other time. in this case, this person has just done that before.
As if I needed another reason not to give a shit about the opinion of ign hacks. 3 minutes of gushing over a FF story. SMFH.

I found her very forgetable. I like some of the other cast though.
FFIX is underrated but not my best pick. I really enjoyed FFVIII over it, and that probably has to do with that being my first Final Fantasy game. The graphics were pretty sweet at the time, and the game had a charming feel to it.
FFVII has a deeper plot, memorable characters, and crazy twists. FFVIII was cinematic, great humor because of Squall being an emo douche, and amazing soundtracks.
First of all, the video says "my favorite," not "the best." IGN isn't making a statement collectively like your title implies. Don't be a moron.
Second, lol. It certainly isn't even the best FF, much less the best game ever.
IX has some issues, with characters other than Vivi, Zidane, Garnet and Steiner being underdeveloped.
Still beats VII and VIII, though.
VI beats all, however, just in terms of character development and the greatest villain of all time.
Speaking of VI, it's long overdue for a 3D style remake like FF4 DS.

Amarant and Quina aren't particularly deep characters (no blue mage really ever seems to be either) but they're still sympathetic and at least have some background. I wouldn't consider either Eiko (especially) or Freya underdeveloped, though. The latter has a less complex backstory and emotional package than other members of the cast, but she has a distinct identity that's fully communicated within the game's context. Plus what more can be expected from a secondary character in a cast of 8 controllable protagonists? Most every other FF game has far more underdeveloped characters than Freya and less cast members.
I go back and forth between Sephiroth and Kefka for best videogame villain (because Kefka is kind of a Joker knock-off in many ways, I see Golbez, Sephiroth, Gabranth, and Jecht more unique and interesting). But it's tougher to argue against Kefka in light of the fact that S-E went and maligned good portions of the FFVII universe with Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus.
I have been replaying it recently. I'm at the part where you fight the black mage number 3. As much as I love the game, the combat is painfully slow. It was my main problem with the game when I was younger still is now. I also hate the fact that even if I didn't play the game for like 10-13 years I still remember everything. When I was replaying legend of dragoon I didn't remember much.
I still prefer FF VII, but not by much. FFIX is still my third favourite game ever
