coming from him I don't believe it. I'm sure they'll be some good stuff as usual though. It will be better than last year, I'm guessing, for what's that worth
@Shewgenja: I can't speak for everyone, but I can give you my thoughts. For me, the duration of the standard hype cycle has gone beyond ridiculous. For what possible reason do you need more than 6 months to a year to get excited about something? Now I am in a weird spot where I can't decide if my love of games is waning or if the games coming are just not interesting. But it has become quite challenging to care about any of these games. And most of the time, the hype never lives up to the expectation. It's an easy way to make me disinterested in a game. All you need to do is show you're game for the first time at E3 and then go "we're launching in November" ...done

But think about it. Other than Fallout 4, which was a truly titanic feat, have you ever heard of a game that didn't leak that it was being worked on right up to its launch? I see a whole other side of the coin happening, which is there will be no hype whatsoever for anything because all gaming promotion will be subverted by leaks. Another thing to consider about Fallout 4 is that we are talking about a publisher/developer who likely ponied out a huge bonus to everyone involved with the creation of the game to not let the project leak. Knowing full well that they could count on millions of sales to offset that bonus payment.
@Shewgenja: I'm not totally following the logic. Are you saying these companies are forced to announce their game years in advance because it was leaked that said game exists? Even if the existence of Fallout didn't get leaked, everyone knew that's what they were doing. That whole Bethesda conference was a great way to do it, and then I only had to wait a few months to play. I didn't spend 3 years wanting play it (No Mans Sky). The only thing I see being hurt by leaks are the E3 reveals. It takes a bit of the excitement out. But even so, I still want to play the game...if it looks good.
Biggest reveal: Scorpio (changes the console market landscape)
Best reveal: Play anywhere
Best game reveal: God of War and Days Gone *tied
Most shocking reveal: Spiderman by Insomniac (thought for sure it would be SuckerPunch)
Game of show: Zelda
Most disappointing reveal: Resident EVII
^Coming from a primarily PS player here.

That Resident Evil reveal made me want to hang myself, that franchise is officially done.
@dimebag667: All I'm saying is that this wasn't even a thing until a very specific contingent of a fanbase made it one. As long as they arbitrarily make this rule and dumbasses play along, it serves the narrative that they can get crushed in games announcements year after year but "teh megatunz" will be delivered next year.
It's a Loot Box mentality. You get a box full of crap 9-10 months out of the year, but on the oft occasion you get something you like, then it's worth the subscription. It's a settle for less mentality spawned from mental gymnastics that state knowing and being excited about games coming to your system is actually a shit show because not knowing whether your plastic console will be a paperweight any given year holds merit.
And, let's get the score straight. In case anyone thinks they are running a goddamn thing in 2016. Games like No Man's Sky and Grand Turismo were splash reeled at SONY's conference. PS4s lineup dwarfs the Xbox, but please, go on complaining about the same rules E3 announcements have played by since the 90s. It's a good look! Really! *golf clap*
@dynamitecop: I plat'ed RE6 and enjoyed the hell out of it. The fact that Capcom was able to push me away from the franchise after that failure is quite an accomplishment. At least we still have the upcoming re-releases of RE4 and RE5. Oh and REmake 2... thank god.
So what was so exciting Geoff Keighley? Literally sick of E3 at this point. It's the same crap every year... Cover only the big games and burry the smaller ones.
Sony did an outstanding job with their press conf. I mean that was the only highlight for me.
This year's E3 was a bust for sure. Mostly games we had seen before and few new titles to get excited about. Where were the killer apps? Where was the innovation? Same old formulaic games. The stagnation is real. By the numbers and playing it safe is what I see. The hype is not justified.
If you've missed something from E3 2016 here's the YouTube channel that Geoff is hosting.

There really weren't many megatons this year.
Outside of Spiderman being developed by Insomniac (Sucker Punch was the rumored dev) there were no surprises this year. Still plenty of great looking games but everything was already leaked beforehand. We already knew about Scorpio, a new God of War, Bend working on an open world survival horror game. Not sure what Geoff heard or saw to make him think we "weren't ready" for.
@NathanDrakeSwag: @blackace: Geoff was just talking about Zelda, he forgot there was gonna be other games at e3.

Too bad Zelda wasn't the best game at E3 or even top 3. Horizon, God of War and South Park The Fractured But Whole had better showings.
