Former Sony dev hypes up Sony showcase, teases big announcement

PlayStation’s upcoming showcase won’t disappoint fans looking for “the traditional, great first-party PlayStation”, a former senior developer has claimed.

That’s according to God of War creator and Twisted Metal co-creator David Jaffe, who claimed in a video stream on Friday that he’d heard that PlayStation’s first-party studios would “be there with flying colours” during the September 9 event.

In a separate tweet, Jaffe claimed that one possible PlayStation game announcement was “bad ass” and “people are gonna lose their fucking minds”.

I’m not going to say what I know is going to be at the PlayStation showcase next week… but here’s what I can tell you,” Jaffe said on his YouTube channel.

“I’m not going to tell you what’s going to be there, and I don’t know everything, but I know a handful of things and you won’t be disappointed if you are looking for the traditional, great first-party PlayStation.

“That’s going to be there with flying colours and I’m so excited to see the people’s response to it. I haven’t even seen what I’m talking about, but I’m very proud and excited for all of [Sony’s people].”

Jaffe, who directed the first two God of War games, wouldn’t confirm if the sequel to 2018’s God of War was planned to appear during next week’s showcase, but claimed that he’d heard it was aiming to contain “40 hours” of content.

“People are speculating that God of War Ragnarök, or whatever they’re going to call it, is going to be there. I’m not saying it is or isn’t… I don’t know anything about that,” he said.

“What I will tell you though is that I’m hearing… from people in the know, that that game is 40 hours. They are aiming for 40 hours of gameplay.”

Following the publication of the video, Jaffe wrote on Twitter: “Just found out about a new [PlayStation] game they are making – no idea when it gets unveiled (maybe next week, maybe not) but just know when it does, people are gonna lose their fucking minds! Bad ass!!!”

I don't know why folks get hype about things like these. Your gaming experience is going to remain the same as it did prior to the show. What you would be left with is hype and the waiting game, like every event like this.🤷‍♂️

It will be a massive event that eclipses everything shown by Xbox in the last year. Sony will show us why their systems are as rare as they are.

I loved the Sony of early last gen. They came out with FF7 Remake, Shenmue 3 at E3, also teased Crash Bandicoot. That was fun. And that's what these events should be; fun!

Seems like David Jaffe is suddenly good now when he fell off cows radar by criticizing the Sony first party and awards shows.

I wasn't that impressed with the Xbox show. With no Starfield gameplay, nothing really hyped me. You gotta do better than Halo, Forza and ANOTHER 4-player co-op shooter hitting the market.

I hope it has a silver lining on the PC side where they update it, one of my biggest gripes is that it basically has no replay value. Instead of adding an NG+ they keep doing this developer commentary shit. I mean, it's nice, but an NG+ would be far more valuable. Aside from little replay value, Valve games in general are far too easy. They play-test them with soccer moms and toddlers. No reason they can appeal to them and put in harder difficulties.

That would be pretty awesome. I feel like Guerilla would be perfect for it, but don't know if they have the resources. I'll take another Killzone game tho.
