Poll *for console gamers only - What do you think is the cost of a decent gaming PC (58 votes)

400 dollars 7%
600 dollars 16%
800 dollars 31%
1200 dollars 33%
1600 dollars 5%
2000 dollars 2%
2500 dollars 0%
3000 dollars 7%

i am not asking the PC gamers that already (or should) know the answer, i wanna know what console gamers think

p.s. i am no system fanboy, i had nes, snes, ps2, ps3, x360 wii and some pcs

a decent gaming PC is one that can run next gen games like Battlefield 4 or Need for Speed Rivals at decent frame-rates up to 60fps, 1080p, high to max visual settings, record videos, run wii and ps2 emulators...

My PC is worth about £1,000, but I actually spent £800 for parts since I recycled the parts from my previous PC.

PC hardware is clearly expensive in the first place, but when you recycle parts towards an upgrade and the fact that PC games are cheaper (Steam sale *cough*) - it doesn't really hurt your wallet as much as console gaming with insanely priced games.

Exactly. It's a well known fact that every console gamer buys all their games at full price and PC gamers buy every game at 5 or less. All you have to do is buy approximately 200 or so games on Steam sales and then compare that to full priced console games and it's really eye opening to how much money you save by switching to PC gaming.

and here I thought this thread might actually be half decent for a change. More fool me I guess

but the vote results seem to be about accurate, $1200 is where I'd say you start seeing proper benefits of PC gaming over a console. It does indeed cost a fair bit more but hey, that's PC gaming

The rig I run cost me well over $4000 at this point

I'm the stereotypical console gamer. The only PC game I've ever played was House of the Dead 2 at least 10 years ago. I'm 36 years old and I don't know jack shit about computers.

I'm under the impression that for a PC to beat the available graphics on the X1/PS4 you have to spend over $1000.

Your impression is wrong. you can do it with a $700 budget.

chose $1200 because you'll need a keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers maybe, power supply and fan maybe

I'd say to get a mid range PC you're talking about £800 or so. The problem is not the initial cost, rather how much the next round of upgrades will cost to keep the system relevent.

$600 - Mid

$800 - High/mid

$1000 to 1200 - High end

+1200 - Enthusiasts (mostly non-gamers)

Ive built a gaming PC in the past for my brother. It was $950

I continually price one for myself and it always ends up being around $1200

Of course Im using parts that will give it a 4-5 year lifespan before anything needs to be upgraded.
