Going to play this back to back with the first one, which I held off playing. Decided not wait for the third entry, as we'll all be old people by then.
Even tho i couldn't care less about the game, or any FF games for that matter, the trailer looked good, and seemed like the Japanese Ubisoft is putting effort into this one game.
Damn, had to get it…

Holy hell! That was amazing. Day ****ing one baby!
so good indeed! they showed a lot too, they’re confident!
FFVII Remake was overrated as hell.
The writing is terrible and they made the story worse.
Here comes SW’s resident Final Fantasy hater 😆
Thought Final Fantasy VII Remake was absolutely fantastic game. Looked and played amazing, was really well written, and had a great soundtrack. Characters were fantastic especially Aerith. SquareEnix absolutely nailed it. No significant flaws. 10/10 game.

Except the writing and how it makes the plot points of the original worse.
And the Midgar section of FFVII was the original's most top notch section.
And 7 million shipped and sold is an underwhelming number for Remake
It goes to show that the game does not interest people outside its fans.

He's right though. I've never been the biggest fan of FF7, but I was quite enjoying the Remake when it was just doing FF7 stuff. Then they stuffed it all up by adding that awful ghost sub-plot.
It was incredibly self-defeating - a new plot device that deliberately drew attention to how on-rails and nonsensical the story was. Whenever a character makes a sensible choice in the story, or tries to kill a villain, or tries to have any degree of agency - nope, ghosts appear and force them to do the plot of FF7 instead. It's like the writers wanted to take the story in a hundred different directions, but they felt chained down by the mass of faceless fans who won't let them do anything but retell the same storyline. It frames the story of FF7 as *the bad outcome* that the characters have to fight against. It's bizarre.
It's all totally pointless too, since they could have gotten away with just badguys slipping away off-screen, or people surviving due to plot armour. There were dozens of ways to not draw attention to the railroading.
Oh, and the ending was garbage. The new final battle makes zero sense if you haven't played the original game, and then you get the end credits and you've achieved...well, nothing. It was the least earned epic battle in JRPG history, followed by the least fulfilling ending.
What a stupid name. We went from Final Fantasy Remake Part 1 to Final Fantasy Rebirth Part 2??? No wonder this company is losing billions of dollars currently.
Final Fantasy Remake Integrade Part 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue Insert Random String of Words Here
Try and fit that on a box!
@Archangel3371: Only 3 months? That would be great news.
Thought FF7R was great on PS5, FF16 on the other hand....
720p upscaled and sub 60 fps.
I will absolutely wait 3 months for a PC version.
maybe even 6!
It looks fantastic. February is going to be crazy with P3R and this only having a three week gap in between.

damn, I didn't even think about that! Preordered Collector's Edition for both lol
Honestly, this was really good ... probably the only hyped game i have for next year.
Agreed. Glad to see AAA games that look inspired and exciting. And they empathized the actual gameplay along with the story.
Will wait for the PC version but looking forward to it. They did a good job with FF7 Remake. Just..er...Better PC version this time please square. In fairness to them I hear they did a better job with crisis core reunion so hopefully lessons learned.
It looks like it's covering a colossal amount of content though. From Leaving Midgar all the way to Cloud falling at the crater (is my guess). I wonder if they are going to disregard some of the extra story stuff they had in FF7Remake and stick to the original more.
Sephiroth is still iffy though. He only should have been hinted at in remake anyway and generally I don't think they are doing a good job on his character.
Structurally I suspect the layout will be more big maps but not directly connected instead of 1 big open world like in the PS1 game. Which is fine. I also suspect we wont get the highwind in this one.

7 million is a good number for a game that's on PC and PS5.
7 million? For a game hyped this much and accessible on the PC, PS4 and PS5, that doesn't sound a lot.
Genuinely not trying to put anything down or belittle anything... Just surprised.
I mean, it mentions FF7 Remake as well as the other version, so it sounds like it includes the PS4 too. Isn't the PS4 "the" console for JRPGs? :-S

I honestly think Final Fantasy as a brand isn't that big in the UK. Most of the people I've met haven't even played FF7 or most of the Final Fantasy games.

Even with all those big adverts on the sides of our buses? ;-)

I don't know ... but i'm feeling they are trying to make him some kind of sympathetic character or antihero ? which would be terrible IMO.

They play FIFA/EA FC, COD or some famous multiplat games tbh. Only 1 or 2 people I've met have played some JRPGS.
^when fanboys try to play the sales card in an effort to express their bitterness 🤣
7 million for a very hyped game like FFVII Remake is pretty low.

The potential sales kinda got screwed due to epic games exclusivity and PS+ game catalogue offer. Sold 5m in a month on PS so its residual sales afterwards is horrible.
Great trailer and definitely the game I'm most looking forward to next year.
I'm really looking forward to the open world exploration and the evolution of team-based combat in this game. It's different enough from the linear narrative and action-oriented structure of FF16 that it shows the diversity of the FF series, where the gameplay changes with each theme and storyline, rather than sticking to one formula like other RPG franchises.
As for the sales of FF7R, if we combine the 7 million users who actually bought FF7R with those who played it on PS Plus, which has 47 million subscribers, we can estimate that around 15-20 million people played the game. And with Rebirth, we can expect even more people to play it.
Anyway, I'm very happy and can't wait to play the two major FF titles within a year, including FF16, which is my GotY so far.
The storyline is a bit bonkers but like with Kojima and David Lynch the trick is to just go with it and not get too bent out of shape with it. I think the the ghosts represent the boring demands of some of the audience wanting a one for one remake against the desire for the actual writers using the newer technology to tell the story that wanted to tell but weren't able to.
The gameplay is top notch. You can can play completely turn-based if you want to - you only have to move you character in AOEs - then use the commands. You also tend to use all the characters rather than mainly using one. You can also play it as a pure action game if you so desire. They have given you a modern choice. The normal mode of Classic made it possible.
Disclaimer. This next paragraph is my subjective opinion. It is interesting with games like this, Yakuza 7, Chained Echoes and Sea of Stars effort has been made to make combat more varied. With action games I use fewer actions. With Crisis Core the best way to play is to use the elements and dodge - I barely get hit with that method, even with bosses. I find action games are too easy to play receiving no hits once you get into the rhythm of the game and there is no reason to experiment. With TB combat you will get hit and have to react to it. And they have made it more interesting than action combat - but maybe a debate for another day.
Anyway a definite day one from me.
