EA: Nintendo is too kiddy for us. We don't make kiddy games

Heh, EA and Activision have never liked Nintendo since day one back in the 80's when I was in just out of college. why would they ever suddenly want to make games for them now. Even the new management hate them just as much as the 5 older ones, and some of the olders ones are still there. In Activisions case Kotick has never liked them and has been with the company also since the 80's if not mistaken. Kiddy games is just icing on the cake. neither really ever want to put games on nintendo systems so this is just more of an excuse than anything really.

EA seems to be getting more blunt though, as the only think they have to say now after this is "Nah we just don't give a shit about them."

What, and statements from Reggie, Iwata, or Miyamoto didn't piss you off at one point?

Besides that, when you consider Wii and 3DS have similar reception, it does. My stance on EA making hypocritical statements doesn't change and putting it on different systems doesn't change that.

They should have been honest and said it was because the system isn't selling well.

EA turned their back on the Dreamcast and we all know what happened after that. Only difference is that EA has healthy competition these days.

First off, there is nothing wrong with having a family friendly image. It's part of Nintendo's appeal, and one that they have developed over the years. There's also nothing that's stopping publishers from bringing in M-rated games over to Nintendo consoles either (Mortal Kombat aside, but that was an era where there is no such thing as a ratings system).

Face it, those who own an Xbox or Playstation isn't going to jump ship unless there is a compelling exclusive. And in this day and age, I don't think we will ever see something of the magnitude of FF7, Halo or GTA 3. Being kiddy isn't an insult, it is only if the gameplay itself is dumbed down for what is perceived to be a "kiddie" audience, which does not seem to be apparent at all with Nintendo games.

On System Wars, which is literally the Mos Eisley of the internet. Go to a community with a better standard of discourse, such as Reddit or GAF- see the reactions there.

It's supremely lucky for them that every time a developer announces they aren't supporting wii u it's someone Nintendo fans aren't interested in. EA, bethesda, rockstar. You have to give EA all the credit. They could have said something along the lines of "Sales are just not strong enough to justify making games for the Wii U," but that just didn't cut it. They went and added the "TROLOLO TEH KIDDIEZ NINTENDO 80S CARTOON GAMES FOR THE KIDDES" to really make an impact on the dumber corners of the intrawebs.

I don't know if it's the "kiddy" aspect. It might be just because people see the third party games on the Wii U are not as good on other systems.

This is a complex problem, and ultimately stops with Nintendo. They need to resolve the issue - which is seemingly impossible. At the moment, there seems to be a chicken-egg problem of "we want to make games on Nintendo but the demographic is not popular enough VS making more games will increase the demographic". Everyone needs to either get on board or get out. And it seems like everyone is getting out. Personally, this is why I think big third party publishers have more of an obligation (for the sake of the industry) to support the three platforms irrespective of how they're going in sales. There is always rough patches for all companies, but if a big third party publisher doesn't support the platform, then you fall into the chicken/egg problem, and things become even harder. This is why I appreciate Ubisoft's efforts with Nintendo, and this is why I don't appreciate EA's efforts. Again, this is a complex problem, so I obviously don't blame EA for what they're doing. As I said, it ultimately stops with Nintendo.

truth is i think this is one of nintendo's biggest problems. They need to find a happy medium and stop trying to sell consoles to moms and dads.

It's true. I don't see what's bad about making a console primarily targeting kids though. One of the misstakes Nintendo did leading up to the Wii-U launch was pretending that it would be a multiplat machine that would bring core gamers back. That was silly of them. Nintendo should focus on what they are good at which is kid/family gaming. It's nothing to be ashamed of.

This doesn't mean that their games can't be enjoyed by adults, on the contrary they are some of the most fun games out there. But who does it serve to pretend Nintendo isn't primarily for kids?

Last I heard, the fallout between Nintendo and EA was over Nintendo rejecting EA's offer of using Origin as their online infrastructure. And now EA are claiming the fallout is because Nintendo are "teh kiddies"... Whatever the case, we probably won't know the real reason any time soon.

Actually, the X1 didn't sell any better than the Wii U did in its first few months. The problem with the Wii U was that it got very few new releases after that (largely due to the fallout with EA and other third-parties) and ended up selling really badly after those first few successful months.

Even Mario is struggling on the WiiU these days. Of course 3rd party guys like EA will start to get pissed that their games which sell like crack on Sony and M$ platforms are struggling on WiiU. Even COD Ghosts, the highest selling game on the planet was a total flop on WiiU.

Yea the WiiU is a disaster, I just hope things pick up soon for them. I wouldn't want them to totally expire and leave only Sony and M$ fighting the console war. This is why Nintendo has to get their heads out of their asses and figure out a way to get people interested in the WiiU again.

I do hope Nintendo turns their console business around, but I'm also glad that they're going through so much trouble right now. Companies need a kick in the ass from time to time. Sony got theirs early last gen and it really worked wonders for them. Hopefully Nintendo answers the wake up call. They may be great game developers, but they seem to be oblivious when it comes to everything else.

Mass Effect 3 was far from a Major Effort on EA's part.
