DriveClub PS+ Edition Being Taken Down October 6, lolSony

This is rich- the PS+ edition of DriveClub is going to be leaving the service on October 6. This was promised as a freebie benefit to all PS4 owners who subscribed to PS+, and after the disaster that is DriveClub's development, I would have thought they would have left this up simply garner goodwill.

A timeline:

• On February 27, 2013, Sony announces the PS4 and DriveClub too. The first promise that Sony makes to us about the PS4 is that DriveClub will be available to everyone to download for free, at launch, as a PS+ perk
• Sony later on clarifies (backtracks?), and emphasizes that the full game will not be available on PS+- only a special 'demo' version. That said, they promise that the game and the PS+ edition will be available at launch
• Sony delays DriveClub indefinitely just a few weeks out from the PS4 launch. Alongside that, the PS+ edition is also delayed.
• Almost a year later, DriveClub finally launches for PS4. The PS+ edition is still not in sight.
• The DriveClub launch is a total shitshow. Sony and Evolution scramble to fix the game, and refuse to even commit to the PS+ version along the way.
• After stringing fans along for a year, the PS+ edition is finally released in July 2015, more than two years after the original promise for DriveClub was made. It is what it was promised to be, and starts to showcase the game to fans.
• Three months later, Sony takes down DriveClub PS+

Like, what is this nonsense? You make a bunch of promises you can't keep up, you string players along for two years before you finally give them what you had committed to, you presumably spend development resources on getting this thing out, and now you are withdrawing it? Why? What sense does that make?

The sad part is, this would not even have been so bad if the PS+ lineups each month did not continue to be so terrible. That they are, and that Sony is actually removing PS+ perks from the service as well, is terrible.

Im guessing theyre trying to cash in on some of the Holiday sales it might bring. Im sure many people want a racing game for Christmas. Hopefully it will come back to PS+ soon.

Sad how bad that game turned out. Big fan of Evolution Studios. Actually similar thing to Ready at dawn. Nice studio, poor ps4 game.

Probably best to forget driveclub and work on Motorstorm Unleashed (tm)

Is this for real? The free game came out in June after an 8 month delay from an already one year delay, and they're pulling it 4 months after release...

This will be completely fine simply because it's Sony, no question about it.

To actually try to be clear ; Driveclub having a free edition the way it did, shuddnt be brought up as a big deciving move. Yea money cam 1st with a few actions but that with all company's. Which is why i made comparisons. Because if you get really technical there shouldnt be a company that you guys like at all. Thats if you really wanna technically follow the topics logic. But maybe im off on something

The game was supposed to be available for one month as a "free" game.

So why is it going away any kind of a surprise?

Not surprising since it is Sony but pretty tasteless . Even before the PS4 released Sony kept promising this game free with PS+ and through out all the delays Sony kept saying do not worry fans we are trying to get it to you, but just a few months after it is released they take it away.

Good, I hope it's a sign Evolution Studios is looking in different direction, preferably on a track which involves them making a new Motorstorm game on the PS4... if they still have it in them. Apocalypse was utterly horrible, but if they can make one as good as Pacific Rift I'll be satisfied.

I think this comes as more of a trade-off for truly botching your release product. It comes down to deciding what this would garner by remaining free (even for up to a year) versus what you've lost monetarily. The losses must be pretty staggering if they're willing to roll over after 3 months.

None of these video game companies can handle success, it seems. They all turn awful as soon as they take a sales lead.

But if they were going to do that, why bother with developing a PS+ version separately to begin with? Seems to me like a waste of resources and time...

For those who haven't downloaded it, you aren't missing much. The free edition is garbage.

Eh, not really. At the very least it gives a good feel for the game.

@charizard1605: except it doesn't. The maps given for free are the worst in the game. There's no storm/snow weather either and those are the coolest in the game.

I thought the included map has rainfall? I know it doesn't have snow, snow in tropical India would be weird, but I'm pretty sure rain is a thing.

I may be wrong, especially since I SharePlay'd DriveClub a lot (the full version) so maybe my memories are all mixed up.

@charizard1605: rain yes but nothing else but rain. Plus, the map itself is a chore compared to others, pretty much all other maps/countries are better.

They probably took statistical data and gave people the worst possible content in the game.

Downloaded the PS+ version, played it for around an hour, deleted it and haven't given it another thought since. They give you like one map to drive on, and I didn't like the controls. Screw 'em.

Yeah, I've also noticed this. Big fan of Evolution and RAD last gen, not so much this gen...

What has Evolution done this gen: made one game and tried to patch things up...

Same for RAD: they made one really short, really linear game.

In a few years time they had multiple games out last gen that were WAY better.

I really hope other studios don't follow this pattern, and Sony Bend makes a better transition from handheld to console.

Think i over thought the topic a bit. Aswell as didnt read the full op. Driveclub since it was 1st announced hasn't meet my exspectations besides graphically. As of the free version tho , i just find it hard to complain about it , no way you cud enjoy driving in real life and not like that game despite the hard turning , the sounds and sights in speed alone. And it was free. Just late lol

I lol at those who did not get the full game... Devs managed to fix many issues and Driveclub is a great racing game..
