Dragon Quest VII and VIII heading to the West

According to an interview with Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii, he stated that Dragon Quest VII and VIII will be localized for the West. He did not say on what plaform, as both games are available on mobile phone and VIII has yet to be released on the 3DS in Japan.

Don't really care about them, they don't sell well in the West. But, Nintendo really needs to drop the Region Lock as it's preventing fans from playing these games.

Next year actually looks pretty great for the 3DS- Fire Emblem Fates Birthright, Fire Emblem Fates Conquest, Bravely Second, Dragon Quest VII, Dragon Quest VIII, Monster Hunter Chronicles, Monster Hunter X, Yokai Watch... it looks like it will go out in a blaze of glory at the very least.

Also, I wonder if @finalstar2007, who has made it a point to be excited for Dragon Quest once it has started to hint at returning to PlayStation recently, will suddenly stop caring for the games again, now that both games are confirmed to be coming to 3DS.

Never have played a DQ in my entire life...so i might get VIII which is, according to some people, one of the greatest JRPGs ever made.

You should get V on DS, as it is better.

VIII on 3DS is a fucking travesty, it should have been given a console remaster in HD like Final Fantasy X. The graphics are timeless and it would look amazing. Cool that VII is coming though, middling game in the series but still nice to see they are throwing us western Dragon Quest fans a bone.

According to GAF, DQ8 on 3DS has:

• faster battles;
• no more random encounters;
• new playable characters;
• new story chapters;
• SpotPass and StreetPass;
• a better framerate

I'll take a graphical downgrade for that, man.

@charizard1605: Okay. You could still have that stuff AND better graphics on a console version. I'm confused as to why you're framing this as an either/or situation. Even the SpotPass/StreetPass gimmickry can be done better on a console.

@charizard1605: I actually can't see how it looks worst on the 3DS tbh. The biggest difference is the lighting and looks much brighter on the 3DS.

I'm not arguing that it could be better on a console, lol, but between the two versions we do have, I am saying this is probably the better one to pick.

I' ve been underwhelmed by the 3ds for a few years. No longer the case.

3DS at this point has a way better AAA quality game compared to DS. It stills needs to beat the PSP on that regard.

So yeah, 2 more games to buy on my 3DS.

I'd hope so considering the PS2 version came out over 10 years ago.

It's a shame the Vita never took off like it should have, The continued popularity of the 3ds just proves that the continued graphical downgradation of storied franchises is a sure bet.

I mean, just look at Monster Hunter. That game looks like straight garbage, it's a real travesty when on a console or hell even the Vita the scale of the monstrosities you fight could come off as much more than the pixelated mess it is on the 3ds.

I wish Nintendo didn't suck as much ass at Hardware development.

Yeah, that footage actually looks good for a 3ds title. I'm surprised actually. I will be picking this up. I never played Dragon Quest on PS2.

Too bad all of them suck, and the DQ games are really old pieces of garbage. The only people who would enjoy them are ones who enjoy Animu school girls who have the bodies of 12 year olds.

It's not a mistake and it is happening, despite not having an official announcement from SE (yet). Not long ago SE sent fans a cease and desist order to stop working on a translation for VII. They wouldn't do that unless a localization was in the works.

I'm glad I got my 3DS. I don't mind hand held these days as my console playing time has died drastically. With a 7 month old and just a bunch of stuff happening sometimes the only game time I get is when I'm in bed and I can plug in my Sony MDR 7506 headphones (awesome sound) and play. Having all the classics on the Vita has been godsend. Having great games on the 3DS as well. It's like i'm playing with a mini ps2, it has that many good games and comparable graphics.

Is'nt Dragon Quest the old Dragon Warrior?If it is,the last time I played it,it was on the original Nintendo.I think it was DW2.

Dragon Warrior was the NA title for Dragon Quest.

Yeah, according to people who haven't played the rest of the entire series, lol. Dragon Quest V is by far the best in the series and one of the best JRPGs ever made, followed closely by Dragon Quest IV.

Eh.. putting my fanboysm aside, they're all great games (except for the first two, kind of outdated and simple). They all offer something unique that's gonna decide your favorite. My favorite is V because of the story and characters, it's the only entry in the series which has such a strong focus on narrative.

Definitely agree with Dragon Quest V being the best in the series. Such an amazing game.
