Doom Eternal is Quake 1 to Alyx is goldeneye.

Alyx will receive better because of low standard, Eternal is better in general with higher replaybility.

LOL Quake has explosive popularity BECAUSE of its online/mods, not the sp. It was one of the first online fps. Oh yea, and the SP was easy as shit too.

Quake 1 was proper SP game. since then series turn popularity into MP. Quake 1 was also real quake. not strogg one that lost identity of its own.

dont care if it was first MP game. i played and loved it for SP. once SP lost in quake. i stopped caring about it.

Im pretty sure if Half life would be the game that released today. you would only praise its MP death match and mod CS and hating the main game that matters. a single player.

I have a feeling Half Life: Alyx's storytelling, pacing, creative design decisions and meticulously crafted world will hold up in comparison to other beloved FPS games out there. And just because something is slower or different doesn't make it bad. I could throw that accusation toward your own games, which aren't exactly popular mainstream subgenres. Some would argue that Doom's story is direct-to-DVD dumb, and Prey 2017 didn't do well because it had good ideas and moments, but also lots of mediocrity. Outer worlds doesn't have the best writing and has lots of filler junk missions. It's a game a lot of gamers will pick up in a sale.

If you want to play that narrow-minded "all games must be compared to the Top Dog and award winner", then your own games that you listed pretty much fail too. If you want to play that "all games must be mouse+keyboard only", you're just being an awful reviewer with skewed viewpoints.

It's really great and enhances enjoyment tremendously when companies retroactively add almost an entire minute of unskippable credits each and every time you boot the game.

If Alyx is the best thing to come to VR, then it's the best thing to come to VR and is worthy of all the accolades. Whether it exists in a vacuum or not (it doesn't) does not matter.

Goldeneye was one of the best games available until it wasn't.

Alyx will [likely] be the best VR game until it isn't.

This is how things work.

goldeneye was always overrated. it was terrible FPS that praise for being first console FPS. but compare to PC FPS that time. it was bad and now it doesnot age well.

Everything sucks compared to PC, so it's sort of a moot argument.

Goldeneye was great with friends, though (especially if you played as Oddjob and pissed them off).

It had some really good strengths, too; the game has plenty of modes, neat levels, a fairly decent singleplayer campaign, good soundtrack...it had awkward controls, that's pretty much the only bad thing I Remember about it.
