And I'll never get the beef with the cat suit, it was an awesome power up.
The combination of silliness (I love bright and colourful Nintendo games but when my main character is literally "meowing" at me, the dreaded "kiddy" word has to come up) and how much challenge and precision it took out of the platforming when you could miss jumps all the time but it didn't matter cos you could just run up the sides of platforms anyway.
You take video games too seriously.
Haha, yeah.
But really though. If it were new to Mario games I could maybe see what the issue is.
But Mario has been dressing up as a furry since the NES days. We've had raccoons, squirrels, frogs, bumble bees, turtles, penguins... probably missing some I'm sure. So there goes your silliness.
As for the second point, power ups breaking the challenge.. I mean damn, where do I begin? Some people consider SMB3 and SMW among the best Mario games around. You can fly through entire levels in those games. As a matter of fact, you can beat SMW in 12 levels because of the broken cape ability. But hey, the cape is fun as hell, wouldn't have it any other way.
Just about every Mario game has at least one super cheap power up and the cat suit isn't even a high ranker as far as that's concerned. I'd even argue that the Tanooki suit in 3D World is the cheaper power up, but because it's a classic nobody says a word.
I dunno. I've seen a good share of complaints about the cat suit, but to me it fits right in with the rest of the series.
