Developers are dumbfounded at how amazing TLOU2 looks.

Their abilities are not. I fully expect them to search under vehicles, communicate with each other efficiently and react to the player in smart ways. I remember the original demo for PS3 when Joel ran out of ammo while shooting. The AI heard it and yelled out, "I know what that means!" and started moving in quicker. They actually did that in the game, calling out that Joel was out to other AI and they started rushing. Looks like we're going to have less escorting too, so that might make it more immersive than the first.

Its someone else's playthrough rather than your own as the game is about open space. Incorporating stealth to full on action back and forth with enemies. I would say they helped the playthrough by scripting somethings to make it as perfect as it can be to get there point across. Your playthrough should be different though as the final game will be systemic. The expection is you should have your own emergent moment to moment gameplay. You don't have to go exactly to the same places the demo went use tools same way. The question is will AI behaviour hold up. The first one not everything held up but still was one of the best visceral encounter base gameplay (genuine people not fanboys in this forum have praised it for that).

Lets just hope the improvement they are talking about now hold up for this one. One could say their track record says expect some downgrades however not in the animation context this topic is talking about.

How does ND have a track record of downgrades? I'm really confused by this sentiment.

There are talented devs on both ps4 and PC.

Naughty dog and Guerilla for squeezing every drop of performance out of weak static hardware.

PC devs on the other hand need to make shit run on thousands of possible hardware configs, and then make them run on consoles too. If you think that doesn’t take talent, you’re just a moron.

Consider that MGSV runs at 4K, 60 fps, everything maxed, on a moderately decent PC, then runs at 60 fps on ps4, 30 fps on ps3, and is still quite playable on shitty intel integrated graphics to boot.

Check out the response a ND dev gave to the TR dev, hilarious stuff...

What's shown isn't in the realms of impossibility, I'm always shocked how crap games are animation and AI wise. Things really havn't progress that much in the last 15 years.

If naughty dog pulls what's shown off in the final product or even 75% of it then they would have achieved what everyone else has failed at, it's nothing to do with cpu/gpu power because most games don't play much better than a PS2 game gameplay wise, sure the graphics, detail and scale overall have got better but everything else has not.

Developers shouting out fake are just shooting themselves in the face, they are admitting they would not even attempt it because they are inept.

My bad, I thought that was the TR dev. I‘m an animator myself and I found the gameplay footage they showed inspiring. ND are very talented devs.

I think you might have something there. I think the head of Square asked Eidos why the hell does TR look like garbage? Can't you make something like TLOU2? What am i even paying you for?

PC and Xbox studios should learn how to make good looking games and not just high AA, draw distance, and fps.

Exactly.

Learn from history folks. Is it fake? Maybe not. Is it staged? Abso-freaking-lutely. The finished game will not look this good both in motion and standing still.

It's why McDonalds sells you the idea of a burger that looks amazing, but gives you an actual burger that looks terrible.

Sony Santa monica, sucker punch, evolution studios and guerilla all shown that they are capable of doing some amazing graphics with games like GoW, infamous, driveclub and Horizon Zero Dawn.

Naughty gods did do magic on uncharted 4, them going even further is a no brainer especially when they gets more understanding of the hardware they working on.

There are developers that fake the funk hard. Naughty Dog, time after time and then time again deliver what they promise. If you ask the true big bosses of the industry if Naughty Dog is a top tier dev house, you will get an emphatic yes.

Saying this is no hate to the Cevat Yerlie or Carmichaels of the world. They will tell you, too. Naughty Dog codes to the metal for funsies. Their animation systems set the bar for what other developers hope to accomplish a generation ahead or so given much more powerful hardware and flexible middleware.

In short. There is no reason to believe the demo was bull. People are more than happy to be incredulous, but they will stay incredulous all the way to the day that disc goes gold. It's what Naughty Dog does. I'm more amazed that people haven't learned this, yet.

But to be fair, PC has Candy Crush and Korean MMOs.

Just like they were focused on selling my favorite Sony franchise when Sony was going broke a few years back. Now THAT is laser focus. (Still very salty about them selling Sony Online Entertainment which let to the cancelation of Ever Quest Next). They got the house in order, but now without serious casualties.

No It was a First Party Sony American Studio Based in Austin Texas, and San Diego California. Such a great series. I started playing PC games with Everquest 1 way back in 1999. I was so addicted that I would call out sick from work and skip college classes to play it. Man those were the days! Then I played EQ II hardcore as well up until they sold it off. (which led to my personal worst moment in video game history, when EQ Next got canceled.) Now Sony has no 1st Party MMO, or any PC games at all. Now you should understand my Salt.

Also although cant blame the first demo that did not show this. Ellie was obviously immersion breaking she would break stealth all the times.

Thank you for pointing it out. It seems all the cows either forgot that or deliberately want to avoid talking about it. Funny thing is many cows at the point made fun of Dishonored based on that demo while we all know how history turned out and which game actually gave player choices.

@Zero_epyon: see I really hope the ai isn't scripted. I really hope ND can blow me away.

There is a big history about it I don't want to go on to finding youtube clips. some of them are fanboy easy mode crap but it was a clear downgrade. The first demo of the first game had this thing they called balance of power AI. That the dudes with bats as soon as the player establishes fire power they will hide and hunt you ambush you. They would cooprate in doing so. When the tables are turned or similar weaponary they will rush engage you directly. There was even a reddit post where ND Ai designer went and told people to expect even more. The final game this balance of power AI did not show up. Also although cant blame the first demo that did not show this. Ellie was obviously immersion breaking she would break stealth all the times.

This is the only thing I could find on the matter. And this video has been delisted while the supposed unedited version seems to not work.

It's pretty obvious to anyone who's played TLOU that the difficulty is pretty damn low for the AI to behave that way. I've played it myself multiple times and have seen enemies duck for cover when they see Joel with a gun and charge in when they know he's out of ammo or doesn't have a weapon. If that were a thing, there would be a huge scandal. Instead, the real scandal was your companion AI messing with the flow of things. And the game got hammered for that.

Don't care if it's downgrade, I like what I saw at E3 and this is a day 1 purchase!

I played TLOU like 6 times already and looking forward as to what becomes of Joel & Ellie.

I'm getting a serious case of Deja Vu... I bet this plays out like it has the dozens of times before. Sony shows "gameplay" of a game. Cows overhype the game. Said game comes out and doesn't look quite as good as the reveal gameplay. Cows bend all logic, reason and reality trying to defend the retail version of the game. The shit works on you people every damn time. And every time people engage you. It's probably best to let you all live in your fantasy land where Drakes face in the UC4 reveal trailer is of the same quality as the final UC4 build

1. Going to be downgraded. Just like the last 10 Sony movie games at E3.

2. Going to look mediocre in actual gameplay shots by users that aren't photomode or cutscenes, because we've already caught up to those petty tricks.

Exactly.

Learn from history folks. Is it fake? Maybe not. Is it staged? Abso-freaking-lutely. The finished game will not look this good both in motion and standing still.

It's why McDonalds sells you the idea of a burger that looks amazing, but gives you an actual burger that looks terrible.

LMAO @ silly hermits with $1000+ PC's that can't believe the graphics of a 2013 $250 console...

and I could do the same thing for Horizon Zero Dawn...Damn you'll mad haha.

Let the reality sink in and the salty tears flow salty peasant beggar race!

Now TELL US MOAR about how the graphics are fake/staged/ what the final game will not look like! :)

Bu bu but teh downgrade??? :'(

@tgob89: Did you watch that video? There are dozens of differences between the two! For starters the fog, shadow and particle quality is night and day. Then the kids fur on his jacket and Kratos's beard moves a ton in the reveal but not (or barely) in the final version. The fire in the final version also looks to be running at a half fps or something. It's real choppy looking. The bosses facial animations in that death sequence were toned down to damn near 0. Depth of field seems to be completely disabled in the final build and the foliage is far less dense when the kid holds the knife to the animal. Like almost non-existent...

You're right, no evidence of a downgrade at all

It looks insane indeed! If it was an Ubisoft trailer i would be skeptical, but i don't think it was scriped.

Of course once you trigger an animation, the sequence is scriped, but that happens with all games. The thing with ND ones (same happened with Uncharted 4) is that the transition between actual movement and these sequences is incredibly seamless.

@goldenelementxl:

Yea I watched the video bud. Yes there are differences...but the claim is downgrade and your excuses don't show that.

You just tried to pick out whatever "differences" you could spot and claim downgrade but a lot of the "differences" look better on the final version but...you didn't mention those because it doesn't help your argument.

Sorry Lem/herm there was no DOWNGRADE in graphics like you clowns claimed. Final graphics overall are upgraded. A defensive non-PS4 owner like yourself wouldn't know for sure but rest assured when God of War sweeps the graphical awards at the end of the year and you guys are left making excuse after excuse like you did last year when Horizon Zero Dawn did the same thing.

FINAL GAME GRAPHICS LEM/HERM..

So you're trying to say that's downgraded from what was originally shown? LMAO

bu but teh downgrade? :'(
