Lukewarm initial reception, and EA is already selling season passes for new maps and game modes (12 new maps and 4 new game modes).
Playerbase segregation is the nail in the coffin for this multiplayer-only game.
No single player, no "immersion", no thanks. I wanna feel like a Jedi or Sith. Not go random pew pew pew pew, move on pew pew pew. The solo mission is NOT good enough.
I have both previous Star Wars Battlefronts on o.g. Xbox and only played them both for only less than 2 hours total combined.
Nice graphics though. It's a shame, they've got the whole Star Wars atmospheric feel done right. But no SP story arc to go along with it. I don't mind MP, but I got a problem when games are released without SP.
SP first and then MP.
Better yet SP only and forget MP (Wolfenstein TNO comes to mind)
Yeah, it's kind of shameful for no single player. But if you like multiplayer, that part of it is really well done. As I only played Battlefield 4 on my 360, this might be the shooter of the gen for me. I'll have to revisit Battlefield 4 again on PC or PS4 to see how it compares.
Hopefully EA do a single player only Star Wars game that is a good 15-20 hours - maybe even a new Bioware game or the open world they were talking about. You know if they did bother with a single player for Battlefront, it would have been a 3-5 hour linear campaign. I would have taken that for sure, as part of the package, but ultimately not much of value was lost. This game, like Battlefield, is really all about the multiplayer aspect - and unlike the sloppy Battlefield 4 launch - it seems like so far so good with Battlefront.
It was a stupid decision from the onset to create a game like this without a story or narrative of any kind. I could excuse it on the previous Battlefront games but with how this game looks and captures the feel of Star Wars, it's nothing more than a colossal letdown. There was a huge opportunity here that was squandered, especially seeing how story and lore driven the world of Star Wars is.
I liked the GameTrailers review, actually. I usually like their reviews. They're so good at showing gameplay that it helps you understand pretty early on if you want to be a part of that game or not. And they aren't too editorial, they outline what you can expect.
Looks great.
Regarding the so-so scores, makes me wonder how the hell did they review the game since it launched, like, today? In NA at least.
Hmmmmm still this 7 from GS turned me off. I would rather get it much later discounted with all dlc. In this way, content won't be that slim. And maybe they will release bigger maps that support 64 players by then.

Wait for the Visceral Games Star Wars project.
Looks like all flash and no substance unfortunately so for me it's still a no-buy. I love eye candy as much as anyone else on system wars, but I'd rather spend my time with the latest starcraft 2 expansion than a shooter who's only achievement was it's looks.

Seems like the answer to that is yes.
What scares me is it seems a little thin on content, I want it but don't want to be let down :(
Oh I played the beta, it's trash, but I was merely commenting on the bold.
A game where the season pass is almost the size of a game? Yeah no thanks. Halo 5 and Splatoon cover my mp shooter needs for this year, and if I really need a dice fix: Battlefield 4 is plenty playable now.
Yeah it looks great., but that means fu** all if it's boring and repetitive... which I think it does.
Just got this game, I was bit hesitant because the game looked a tad flat gameplay wise in the videos I had seen, plus some of the impressions/reviews. Turns out this is the greatest game I have ever played, no joke. Beautiful and extremely addicting. I have been playing it non stop for around 10 hours. I can't remember a game that surprised/awed me this much IN A LONG TIME. Lately, even though I've enjoyed games, I kinda thought I lost that magical/fun feeling I used to get years ago but this game brought it back. I have been literally smiling and laughing like a little kid playing this game. It is a work of art, just an amazing experience. I am just so happy with it.

Is it your first game?
Ugh... It's like they made four decent looking plants and just copy/pasted. And those trees are looking preeeeety bare....
This game doesn't really wow me. The shader tech and the game's use of PBR are good, but... overall, it just doesn't floor me. Character models got overlooked, it's got some serious pop in and even the textures don't knock my socks off. I said the forest level looked particularly nice, but colors have a lot to do with that. Plus there's just not a whole lot going on.
It's a nice looking game, but i'm still waiting for that next gen wow moment, personally (i've had it with a couple Wii U games but that's with a different standard). Right now I think FF15 and Nier 2 will be the games to be that wow moment.
And the other thing is, so many games look good now, y'know? Diminishing returns and all that.
Turns out this is the greatest game I have ever played, no joke. I have been playing it non stop for around 10 hours.
That's what most people are saying is the saturation point of the game, where playing past it feels samey and uninteresting.
And you must not have played very many games for this to be the best one you've ever played.
Uncharted 4 is still tops, imo.
I havn't seen a single UC4 direct-feed that has a hud/ui (gameplay) that looks better. And this game is huge huge zones to boot, compared to scripted movie game.
You should mention Unreal though, since that's what this is up against for gfx king. not UC4.
Looks amazing. I don't plan on buying it for a while though personally, just doesn't have enough substance for me./
Looks great but how does it animate? Uncharted 4 is still tops, imo.
That game that releases next year?
Graphics won't save it from being dead in a month.
less than a month. two n a half weeks tops.
The audio was stellar to go along with the visuals, now lets get Knights of the Old Republic remade looking like Battlefront.
