Best FPS game of all time?

All games on the list are prime examples of FPS master pieces, however, games like Half-Life 1&2, Counter-Strike 1.6 and Quake 3 Arena are in a tier of their own. The reason being that they were played competitively for over 10 years. None of the other games come even close.

You really had to be a PC gamer back in the early 2000s. to understand just how big of an impact Counter-Strike and Half-Life had on the industry, and the fact that the game was played at a pro level up until only a few years ago. That's a mod with graphics from 1999 by the way.

Out of all these games listed I've only played a few demos of some of them but I've played BC2. Even though I can't say anything about those games I haven't played my favorite FPS so far is BC2. Not as many customization options as compared to BF4 but DAMN--the combat is freaking insane. The theme of the game is full on warfare without any mercy and it delivers 10/10. Much better than BF4 which is just BF3 1.5 being dragged on. And it doesn't get you messed up in the hassle or mumbo jumbo that BF4 has--BC2 is straight forward, simple warfare. Here's a gun, 2 sights to chose from, magnum round or better handling, and that's it, enough screwing around in the menu--hit the battlefield dammit!

Where the hell us Goldeneye?!

Are you kidding me? Goldeneye for what? For bad gameplay? Goldeneye has bad gameplay.

Doesn't get enough love.

Goldeneye has great gameplay and missions, the problem is the controls... due to the controller were awful and dragged it down alot.

How the hell do you quantify best FPS of all time?

Impact on culture, industry, and game design? Doom, Halo, Call of Duty 4 (*barf*)

Innovation and forward thinking? Marathon, Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis, Duke Nukem 3D, Quake, Tribes, etc.

Quality of shooting mechanics? Different styles, up for debate.

that is a very difficult question, like; what's the best band or song ever. it all depends on the mood and the situations in your life at the time of hearing\playing.

I'd say as far I remember it's between:

Bad Company 2, Crysis, or Half-Life 2.

I would say Shadow of Chernobyl but that's just a tad too close to RPG, kind of an unfair advantage for it in my mind.
