@FreedomFreeLife: I love Half-Life 2, but I didn't mention it in my comment. I'll say it's my second favorite FPS next to Halo. But again, if Metroid Prime is to be considered FPS (I think it's just too grand to place under that umbrella), then it's the best, and it's not even close.
You played Episodes too? You played Half Life 2 on PC or on consoles?
Why Halo over Half Life? I found Halo 1 boring because game had no villain, maps were large but empty. Halo 3 and 4 has something to do, maps are more details and enemies to kill. I felt that tone is too much same.
Half Life had this epic feel. You fight against zombies, you fight against soliders, you fight with team, allies, alone. You have villain. You have epic story line(NOT A SINGLE CUT SCENE!!!!). Every map is different and you do different thing like driving with car, fighting in zombie city, fighting in urbal and stuff like that.
Yeah, I played Half-Life 2 and its Episodes via The Orange Box on Xbox 360. Honestly, the cons you mention about Halo can be applied to Half-Life 2, and the pros you mention about Half-LIfe 2 are applicable to Halo. Some of the areas in Half-Life 2 were also large and empty, but I'm not deducting points from it for this reason. Like in Halo, getting from point A to B is all part of the fun, though the vehicles in Half-Life 2 have mediocre controls (maybe it's a console problem).
I probably give Halo the edge over Half-Life 2 for its excellent co-op, campaign (the vehicular battles are just awesome), and great local multiplayer. And the fact that there is no single villain in Halo does not bother me. In the grand-scheme of things, the Covenant and Flood are enemies in the great war presented in Halo, and that's plenty enough for me. Half-Life 2 is superb, like I said, but I personally like Halo a lot more. Halo is a 9.5/10; Half-Life 2 is a 9/10, in my opinion. You like Half-Life 2 more, so I say, "Good for you."
