THe only loading screens i can remember that AC IV had were changing from the boat to the cities or vice versa. So this is pretty impressive. I am getting this game because i am a fan of the series, AC III is the miss step they made, but AC IV was pretty awesome imho.

Ubisoft is holding a panel at San Diego Comic Con, and the panelists, including Aisha Tyler, Creative Director Alex Amancio, Arno’s voice actor Dan Jeannotte and The Walking Dead co-creator Tony Moore, gave more information about the upcoming next generation Assassin’s Creed chapter: Unity.

Here’s a recap of what was said, courtesy of the official Assassin’s Creed Twitter.

  • The French Revolution setting provides massive crowds, great characters, and new narrative opportunities, and was a perfect setting for a game.
  • The French Revolution brought a lot of contrast. It’s brutal and chaotic, but it led to amazing stories that are captured in the game.
  • Arno starts on his own mission for redemption, but he soon realizes there’s so much more for him to do for the people of France.
  • Arno is witty, funny and direct.
  • Arno starts of pretty selfish, but as he gets stronger he becomes more a part of the larger fight of the French Revolution.
  • There’s also a bit of a love interest.
  • Arno has real personal motivations driving his quest.
  • The game is more systemic. The developers want chaos to happen. There are several factions that interact with each other on their own. This means that events happen around you even if you don’t intervene. It makes the city feel more alive and more unpredictable.
  • There are seamless interiors you can enter with no loading. Once you’re in Paris, there’s no loading.
  • One major focus for ACU is character progression. You can collect and customize your items and skills to make Arno your own.
  • You take your version of Arno into co-op, so how you progress your character affects how you play everywhere.
  • There aren’t any explicit cameos from the older chapters of the series, but previous characters are alluded to in the story.

Can’t say I’m unhappy to hear that Arno will have a sense of humor. After the brooding lapse withAssassin’s Creed III, I’m glad that Ubisoft decided to stick with this approach for its main character.

During the panel a new and rather grotesque story trailer by Horror master Rob Zombie and Tony Moore was also revealed, showcasing the game’s backstory and its rendition of Paris. You can see it below, alongside a behind the scenes featurette.

What I didn't like about AC4 is the Myan outfit wasn't available until end of game proving it as a collectible item and pretty much useless in game

Really excited for this.

I wanna hear more about AC: Comet though, despite this one looking/sounding better.

I don't know how they do it, but Ubisoft is the only milk loving publisher that I still respect, because each and every one of their games are at least decent, and sometimes excellent.

There is no reason to not expect a great game coming out of this.

FTFY

What they say is more or less what will be in the game. Now, the demos they like to show at E3? Usually doesn't have anything to do with the final product.

Yup. They always manage, despite allthe bullshit, to make something i get interested in.

Love Far Cry, and for all my "not give a ****" about ass creed, and watch doge lately, i loved Black Flag, and Unity is looking awesome. Also, The Crew, but i'm starting to lose that abit.

Anyway, if ACV manages to be good, i'll be happy. But still, as a PC gamer, fucking UPlay.

No loading screens should become a standard of this gen. This feature is genuinely a big deal.

I hope they meet their goals. Hope they follow in BF footsteps, & give us fans of the series, all of the previous robes.

BTW, I wish ubi would make a game with a templar as the main character. Tend to agree more with them, than the assassins.

IKR.

As if steam wasn't enough, you have to get through yet another layer of DRM to play your AAA game ;_;

But I've gotta admit, the fact that they completely disrespect PC gamers all the time, and use u play for everything, they STILL make good games for PC, like Watch Dogs (yeah I know, worsemod, who gives a shit, it still looked great without those features...).

Same here. This game looks really impressive the more I hear and see about it (taking ubisoft overhype BS-machine into account though)

But what do you mean with "hear more" about AC: Comet ? You mean besides the title ? XD Hehe, because as far as I know, that's all that has been announced.

I want to know more about Comet too though, and if it's any good I'd like to see an HD version for PS4/Xbone and PC too. But perhaps it'll feel like a step back after playing Unity, hmmm

Is comet real?

Templars want peace, & order. The way they try to achieve it is too extreme.

They need a real caring leader, who isn't corrupt.

@ladyblue: I thought that one was set in stone! A little surprised it's not, I took it for granted.

I'm happy though. Really, this cross gen seems longer than usual. Companies need to ditch the last gen and move on.

+1

The high end part of the industry would look pretty bleak without Ubisoft. They're the definitive production line for top shelf games hands down.

I was there in May and it's very accurate. They were all Bow-Bellers/East Enders with a fond love of cheese, baguettes and gorgeous women.

Pretty sure Paris wasn't open to tourists during the revolution.

Prolly gonna get this on PS4. Replayed AC1, AC2 and Brotherhood on PC over the past year and I swear the PS3 versions ran better. Now I'm on Revelations and it doesn't seem much better.

Ubisoft and PC just doesn't seem to mix.

2001's Jak & Daxter had no loading times. Jason Rubin and Andy Gavin were firm in that it was a game coming after 2K and it should have no loading. They hit that goal. It's nice when devs go out of their way to implement something like this. I still don't care for Ubi's games except for Rayman though.

There is a difference between having 2000's AI's on a screen and a platformer from 2001 tbh, even though they managed that

I don't think Comet will be a thing... otherwise we would know somethig by now. But hey, who knows.. Gamescom might bring some surprises! :D

i like the idea of a templar game. i like the idea of a sequel to IV, but prequel to III timeline wise (and i know these weren't the rumors, but i want another haytham game around this time. i know there's books, but i want games and haytham was WAAAAAAAAAAY better than connor)

I think it'd be stupid having 2 main AC games in 1 year. even stupider having 1 for last gen only and 1 for current gen only. If the game is real, they need to delay it at least half a year and at the very least make it cross-gen.

Oh, and it'd be REALLY great if Ubisoft were to stop cheaping out on modern day and make another actual protagonist for that instead of making every post-desmond adventure starring "YOU". i fucking hate when games try to make me pretend to be the one doing everything. i play games to play as someone else doing something cool. someone with their own face, name, voice, and story. not me.

It's all relative to the hardware. Rogue Galaxy (2005) is a real-time action RPG that came out on the PS2 that also had no loading screens, while also being one of the sharpest looking PS2 games at the time. If Ubisoft delivers then neato but this is hardly something new.

Who wouldn't know that there is a difference in games 13 years apart, two generations apart? Of course there is a difference. There was a time when the PS2 was cutting edge console technology. What ND did was an incredibly tough feat back then. It seems you are talking to a strawman, mate.

It was an large effort on the part of Naughty Dog back in 2000 to get that no loading goal done on the PS2 hardware (with their first game on that hardware mind you) and it's now this "no loading" goal is an effort made by Ubisoft developers for their next AC game on modern hardware. My point is unchanged. This isn't anything brand-new or original, but it's nice when developers deliver little bonuses like this.

In 13 years, perhaps some other developer will try again on hardware of that time.
