Poll Anyone still not gaming in 4K resolution yet? (104 votes)

Yes I game in 4k resolution. 54%
Nah, not yet. 46%

I’ve been gaming in 4K on my LG CX OLED since the beginning of this gen. Since I have PS5 and XSX, I’m living the 4K dream. Games like God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West look incredible on it. How about you, SW? Are you gaming in 4K yet?

@Litchie: Lulz, just checked. An RX 6800 XT, which would be similar to a 3070 ti, is both worse and more expensive than 3070 ti. Screw AMD.

I got my first 4k television last week. It's a Vizio 43" with 60hz, 4k display, LED. I don't think I have any game that supports 4k though? The only one I can think might would be Demon Souls Remake, but I've played that so much already. I'm also not seeing that big of a difference from 1080p to 4k. :/

Even if you play on a large 4K TV, very few folks are really playing at a matching output. In't that sort of the in-joke? Current hardware (even on PC, iirc) can't really output to a 60-inch screen at 4K, it's just too much demand.

Everything is mathematical wizardry and upscaling and stuff, isn't it?

FPS over resolution any day. I'm playing tiny Tina's wonderlands in 1080p 120fps on ps5. I can notice the frame rate much moreso than the resolution.

QFT.

I'd sooner backstep to good 1080 screen (for gaming) than upgrade to a 4K if my 1440p monitor took a crap.

Totally depends. Playing Star Wars Squadrons with everything on high/ultra at 4K 120+ Hz on an AMD 6800. But I'm sure a flight game doesn't have as much to render, and EA's engine is probably well optimized. What does the size of the screen have to do with anything?

lol you can't just randomly check and find a deal. They pop up very often for the last two weeks. The rx6750xt was on sale through amd about two weeks ago for $301usd. You will never find a 3070ti anywhere near that price.

Even if my screen were to die soon I would probably just buy another 1080p or at most 1440p.

Nope, I still play in a rather old TV that was one of the firsts LED with 3D, from way back the PS3 days, i bought an OLED 1080p to replace it when said TV stopped working but... i ended giving it as a present and bought a 4K OLED instead as replacement, but that tv just refuses to die, it had outlived several TVs and 2 PC monitors. I'm quite happy with it, it still looks great.

That's expensive as shit compared to what we're getting these for the last last week or so. In fact, just an hour ago there's new stock that poped up again. Multiple days in a row at the same time during the day. The issue is that you gotta drive to pick them up.

I'm still in 1080p land. The difference isn't big enough for me to care.

How telling is it that half the people on an enthusiast site, still haven't bought into 4k?

Maybe I would be playing more modern AAA games if they looked even remotedly interesting.

Even a game like Elden Ring works just fine on a 1070.

Of course it works just fine when you're playing the game on a 2005 resolution and Fromsoft uses their garbo engine from 1997.

I game on ps5 .. mostly games are upscaled or suffer when running 4k, so I don't think it is the same as gaming on a powerful PC 😅

Hyperbola on your end, but in the end nothing of value is lost.

A higher resolution wont help me react to stuff better (like framerate would), nor does it enhance gameplay.

1070 bros! lol, it's been a really good card though. One of the most solid cards I've ever had, I'd say. Still works great for most games.

That said, Darktide is the game that finally showed its age. If there's any game I'd need a new GPU for, it's that. Still perfectly playable, but the visuals ain't great. Mostly because of bad optimization from the devs, but still.

Threads like these make me laugh. “Hardcore” “enthusiast” gamers looking more like the “casuals” they look down on… My wife’s 97 year old grandmother has a 4K TV… All of my in-laws… My moms hospital room a few weeks ago had a 4K TV in it…

Some older games don't look that good in 4K IMO, but that's probably me as I'm mostly in the nostalgic phase.

Not just react better. Higher FPS is way smoother and feels better.

I'd always choose 100fps+ 1440/UW over 4K + 30-60 fps. Fortunately I can have both 4K and high FPS soon.

Just picked up a 50 inch 4k crystal UHD Samsung during black friday for $298, can you imagine a few years ago when people dropped $2,000+ on a 4k tv lol.

I'll run whatever gets me the best performance. If I get 4K/60 then that's gravy. I'm upgrading to a HDMI 2.1 TV soonish, so it'll be nice to have 4K/120.

For sure!

Excellent card, and can still run most games well enough.

There is a part of me that wanted to upgrade a few weeks ago, I was having GPU memory issues, but I managed to solve them.

Obviously, what I am referring to is reacting better while playing video games. Which is tantamount when playing competitive online.

I know casuals such as yourself wont need high frame rates when playing low skill games such as GoWR. But if you try to play competitively, every millisecond counts.

Hyperbola on your end, but in the end nothing of value is lost.

A higher resolution wont help me react to stuff better (like framerate would), nor does it enhance gameplay.

React to stuff better? You play video games just to react better?😅Nice reasoning you got there.

Obviously, what I am referring to is reacting better while playing video games. Which is tantamount when playing competitive online.

I know casuals such as yourself wont need high frame rates when playing low skill games such as GoWR. But if you try to play competitively, every millisecond counts.

You have a 1070 in 2022, and you're talking to me about high frame rates in competitive gaming? Nice joke😂😂😂My god damn ps5 obliterates you garbage gpu from 2001.

LOL, that is funny, but what is even funnier is you not even having a GPU for over a year. LMAO

I am not stuck with a Switch as the only other system😁And i am also checking for deals hourly. As soon as a good deal on a 3060ti, 3070 or the 6750xt pops up, i am grabbing it. Maroxad, tho, he will be on his competitive 1070/1080p monitor by 2025 still.

Just think of all the time you have wasted searching for deals and thinking about buying a GPU. If you had spent that time working even a bullshit part time job, you would have made enough money to buy a more expensive and better GPU.

I said it before and I say it again.

But not a single game that would actually make use of a better GPU even remotedly interests me. Why upgrade for games that are not even worth the hard drive space?

You try too hard to sound like someone who is serious about his gaming, but you end up looking like a🤡. Its time to stop.

I work full time. Its not a matter of me not being able to afford it. I am picky, especially on last gen gpu's. I want to buy one, and know deep down that i didn't got drilled by amd/nvidia. Its a matter of principle, and that is how i roll.

I literally better have no gpu's than buy one that i didn't get for a great discount. Scalpers must absolutely hate the likes of me.

The notion that AAA gaming is bad, isn't exactly an uncommon opinion these days you know.

And the 1070 can run AAs and indies just fine. The games that actually matter.

You can run AA games on medium/low, what my ps4 was able to do, and that thing was outdated years before release. I had the same gpu, its extremely outdated. Funny how someone who brags about being that one person that is very experienced and cares about frames, uses something this incredibly outdated. Your illusion doesn't work.😪

Despite having a 4k TV I've pretty much played all my PS4 Pro games at 1080p with 60+fps since I prefer the performance over the visual quality. I might throw on 4k just to see what it looks like for a bit but it's only for a few minutes before I'm back to the smooth performance mode.

PC 1440p does me just fine and looks outstanding my 27" Gigagbyte screen.

Just not worth the hit to performance in my opinion.

As a console gamer all I can aspire to are Xbox 360 games at 4k/60.
