After going through all that voting, it is obvious that it is nothing but a popularity contest. There are a handful of categories where the games deserve to win it that are winning, but for the most part, either the right games are missing, or the most popular game has the most votes and the least popular game has the least votes.
that is by far the worst GOTY list ive seen. WTF is Braid doing there, its a **** downloadable game. It looks really random. Can anybody really disagree with the 5 GOTY nominees that Spike had? Fallout 3, GTA4, MGS4, LBP and Gears 2signore
Braid is a very deep complexing game. It's totally deserves to be there. Get No More Heroes out of there, but I have no idea why Super Smash Brother Brawl failed to make the list. Overall, i'm going with my gut, MGS4.
Why is L4D on there? And weres Gears 2? If they had the balls to put Resistance 2 on there, at least put Gears 2 on the list as well.... And putting Braid on the list is a joke. If a 4 hour, sidescrolling, 2D puzzle game wins over Fallout 3 and MGS4, something is wrong

They are most likely going to give the awards to the games that bring them the most publicity, whether in agreeance with the majority, or something to cause controversy. Given GS's history and tradition, I bet it will be controversy.

What game do you think deserves it?

SMG was pretty controversial given all the other sites handing it out to shooters and everyone expecting Halo 3 or Call of Duty 4 to take it... the really popular titles.
From what I've heard about the game (which is very little since I've been avoiding spoilers like mad), and based on my past experiences with the series, Metal Gear Solid 4 most likely deserves it the most. It sounds like it has sent of the series in the best way possible, closing the most doors and finally giving the closure to everyone who wanted it. The "magnum opus" if you will. From the games I've played this year, it is Mirror's Edge, the most refreshing and innovative experience I've had in a long time.

I think it will be in "agreeance with the majority" that decides it. But in a way that makes sense. Gears of War was easily the best game in 2006 on next gen consoles judged which was judged by the "majority" of gaming critics. And SMG was the best game in 2007 when judged by the majority. So... in agreeance with the majority isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I believe MGS4 will get it this year. It's such an amazing game. Not perfect, but compared to other offerings it's ahead of the curb in many ways.
I do think its a pretty dodgy list though. Little big planet scored well and, although not my cup of tea, I apprechiate games that are a bit different.
Gears 2 was good, but not unique enough to make the list. Although it is the only game that I remember choking me up emotionally....ever.
Going by the reviews I have read, left for dead should not be up there. NHL 09?...I guess they needed a sports game on the list?

Nope that list is fine, how do burnout paradise, no more heroes and the world ends with you deserve to be on a list gears 2 and LBP are not on :?...

i think some one from gamespot needs to explain and justify why gears 2 isn't in any category, this is just unacceptable, you can't just leave a game like that out, especially when it scored higher than left4dead, and not give a reasonable explanation. so GAMESPOT why isn't one of the most anticipated and high scoring games of this year not up for anything, when it should be a contender for GOTY

Best Competitive multiplayer, hell no. Broken mess. Best co-operative? That could work because lagless horde was a blast. Everything else, no I don't think it should be put up there for much else. Especially not Game of the Year.
