Microsoft and Remedy have backed away from the PC version of Alan Wake over the past year - once a flagship showcase for Quad Core CPUs and all that is good about the innovative PC industry, Alan Wake gradually became a less ambitious, linear action-adventure game after Remedy signed on with Microsoft. The PC version was put on the backburner, with all efforts going into the lead Xbox 360 release; the launch date was pushed to "TBA," and official representatives were coy or downright evasive about its future. Now, Microsoft reps have finally confirmed that Alan Wake will never be released on the PC, after dropping all mention of the home computer version from their latest marketing materials:

"Some games are more suited for the intimacy of the PC, and others are best played from the couch in front of a larger TV screen. We ultimately realised that the most compelling way to experience Alan Wake was on the Xbox 360, so we focused on making it an Xbox 360 exclusive. Both Microsoft and Remedy have long histories in PC game development. This decision was about matching this specific game to the right platform."

From Voodoo Extreme.

I like PC and I'm a really loyal PC gamer, but it seems to me that PC gaming really has no future. At least for now.

If the game is becoming linear and more of an action adventure game, I really don't care that much.

Does everyone really play their console from a couch on a big tv? I play both my PC and 360 from the same computer monitor...so it's like the same experience except for the controller.

Given the change in design it does seem more suited as a 360 game. They just made an optimal decision. My anticipation for Alan Wake died long ago when I realized that it wasn't going to be as ambitious as originally planned. I don't see how this affects the future of PC gaming.

Right on, well. I guess I won't be buying Alan Wake. Oh, and Microsoft can kiss my ass, I'm not buying an Xbox.

Ouch. It's always bad news when a multiplat game goes exclusive. I can't say I blame Microsoft, though.

Because MS bought out a game? like Sony Bought out Heavy Rain? It just goes to show how badly the 360 is struggeling for games.... Alan Wake is an empty shell of its original concept, so I doubt many PC gamers will care that much now.

god awful is too generous. thank god the PC doesn't run on the console business model. if it was and it was getting this kind of "support" from its manufacturer then it would be dead and buried a long time ago.

Im confused about this. The hardcore PC gamers always say MS doesn't "own" PC gaming, yet everyones upset when they dont support it 100%... What gives here? Are you guys really upset over one freaking game? You get nearly every other multiplat except for Halo, Gears and Fable.

I seem to remember that it was originally a semi-open world game, or that is what it looked like to me. Now it just looks completely linear.

Sad, i would have bought this for PC. Looks like they have 1 less sale.

as far as i know, MS have not released one single PC game in the last 2-3 years. they have done absolutely nothing to promote PC gaming...when it comes to promoting windows 7, its gaming credentials are never advertised. just to put another point of view on it, sony, they who fully admit they want PC gaming dead and buried, they who wanted peoples PCs to be replaced with PS3s, have released more PC games this gen than MS and they have more PC games in the works. hell sony have a whole division that works on the PC as well as the PS3: SOE. MS dont own PC gaming (other OSs can play games also) but they do own windows and their support for it from a gaming standpoint is absolutely pathetic. its not one game....its just a complete lack of support and backing in general. the behaviour is most unusual since windows makes MS a crap load of money where as the 360 just barely struggels to keep its head above water. but im sure they have their reasons (ms always wanted their own platform where they could tie the hardware and software together and exhert more control).

Yeah, making stuff up with no experience with the game to back it up? Why do that?

I'll listen to the folks with experience...

If the game is becoming linear and more of an action adventure game, I really don't care that much.DragonfireXZ95
I think remedy really could have had something special if they kept their original core design of the game and the openendness. Yes it would have been a difficult task to to, but i think they could have pulled it off. I am not glad its not coming to PC. A linear action adventure honestly to me sounds boring compared the original design of the game. I kind of had a feeling this ws coming though from all the recent videos we have seen of the game. O well. I maye pick it up for 360, but i still have a lot of reserved judgment on this game. Oh and TC, your last sentence could not be anymore false. If PC gaming has no future then gaming itself goes downt he tube. You lose so many independent developers like the people who made sins of a solar empire, the witcher, and stalker.

Did they hire System Wars fanboys to head up Microsoft's decision making? Do these people not even understand what HDMI does for the PC platform? And why modern HDTV's also come with DVI and VGA input?

This seems like a very sad excuse for putting it on Xbox 360 only. My only guess is that MS paid Remedy off so as to secure a true exclusive for their platform.
