Advance Wars 1+2 Thread- Gamespot 7

So, some bullet points besides the most obvious:

-Customizable AND Unlockable extra maps

-Can be played online

-Can have a local game on one Switch, can even play with AI ala Civilization.

-Uses a Fast Forward function, as well as a reset turn

-Has a challenge mode called "War Room"

Huh, that's quite a bit of potential replay value.

Sounds good. I'll probably pick it up - it'll give me something to play between RE4 and Zelda.

After playing Fire Emblem where characters use medieval weapons to fight, the idea of seeing characters using modern weapons to fight in Advanced Wars seem strange to me.

Shame that it still looks like a phone game. I'm not the person to care a lot about graphics, but these visuals make me way more inclined to play the old games via emulator instead. They look great. This looks shit.

Bet the game is 60 bucks too when it should be 15.

Despite the cringey narrator, the gameplay overview looked great. I would have preferred the original art style, but it’s not the end of the world.

This looks like some of the table top board games my friends and I play.

Seems quite addictive. Knowing Nintendo, this will stay full price for years. I will definitely grab it if I can find a copy for $40.

I wasn't planning to pick this up but the latest trailers I'm seeing here are great and the visuals look to be a tabletop game feel is what I'm seeing for Advance Wars 1+2 Reboot Camp. Gonna buy this day one for sure! War is hard business.

Wasn’t interested in it until I found out it’s a remake.

I got my pre-order finished, so I will be in Day One.

War never looked so charming. My preorder is ready.

Dunno, the artstyle looks rather bland, like toysoldiers bland.

I don't really understand it as Wayforward has such beautiful pixelart games, but for this game they went with a 3D art style.

Wargroove and its sequel look about a million times better.

If they would've gone with this style they should've remade Battalion Wars. My 2 cents.

It seems that some posters on this thread are taking issue with the 3D art style. What about the 2D artstyle?

I'll probably end up buying this, but I wish they didn't have the rewind feature. I know it's optional, but it would be nice if the game actually made consequences for your actions. It's going to be too tempting to just play like a lunatic and rewind without any bearing on how you're doing. Suffice it to say that I will not be using 'reset turn'. It's going to make the games too easy.

I enjoyed them on the GBA, and I am looking forward to spending some time with these again. I do wish this collection was closer to $30 instead of $60

While I would prefer a price of 30 dollars. The fact of the matter is. I never played hte original 2, only the DS games.

Turns out good gameplay >>>> good visuals.

I expect this game to not score particularly well. But I expect to have a lot of fun with this.

Regarding remakes, I skipped Resident Evil 4 (looks boring, don't care), and Dead Space (meh). But this is currently my most anticipated game.

Yeah, pretty insane. 15-20 bucks would've been a good price. Sorry Nintendo, but I'm not gonna buy a game with indie graphics and indie content for AAA price just because it's from you. You can clearly see this game cost next to nothing for them to make. 60 bucks makes no sense.

These sold for $7.99 on Wii U for years. And the older graphics looked better. This new one looks like a free-to-play game for your smartphone, it's a very cheap look.

@Litchie: Using "indie" to describe the look of the game. You know Wayforward (Shantae) developed this, right?

I'll check it out when I can get it at a reduced price. Definitely not buying it at full price.

Did you know that Advance Wars still has a competitive scene today? 20 years later. Since Nintendo never added online play to the GBA, fans made their own ways to play the game online. Which has a few hundred people playing every day.

It is amazing how a Strategy Game on the GBA, still is alive and kicking even after 2 decades. Normally I associate Strategy Games with PC. But Advance Wars has outlasted most of its PC contemporaries. Not as active as something like StarCraft or Age of Empires. But that doesnt take away from its feat.

It should be remembered that Wayforward developed ReBoot Camp. Intelligent Systems (Fire Emblem, Paper Mario) developed the original games that appeared in ReBoot Camp.

They should have used this drawn art style without adding anything to make it look smoother. It looks great.

I still have the original 2 games. They're great for the time they came out 20 years ago, but I wouldn't pay 60 bucks for a rehash resale. There's plenty of newer options that have come out in the last 20 years that have newer concepts and at a cheaper price. Nintendo's just master class at profiteering off of nostalgia and milking their base for as much as possible.

We don't agree on a lot, but I do agree with this. A handdrawn artstyle of this, would have looked so good.

That's a good note. Intelligent Systems made everything good about ReBoot Camp.
