Trump‘s Jan 6th is what made many around the world make such comparisons. He turned our democracy into a laughingstock and shocked the world at what America descended into.

You know your side is desperate when you are incapable of seeing the forest because you are frantically searching for rotten trees to highlight. No matter how many specifics you point out, it will not save your golden boy, absolve those responsible for Jan 6th, or lessen how disgraceful a day it was. If you actually wanted these instances rectified it’d be one thing, but you, and every other Republican, care about them only insofar as the leverage they afford your side in mitigation to what cannot be redeemed.

January 6 was nothing more than a protest at a government building.

The bigger joke is how Democrats lied about January 6 and compared it to the likes of 9/11 and pearl harbor for political reasons, not about the truth, not about "saving our democracy" it was weaponized and manipulated to push a specific narrative to go after political opposition and they lied and put on a whole big for TV committee to do it.

No transparency, bunch of hacks

Wrong. January 6th was a riot that, as far as I'm aware, interrupted the peaceful transition of power for the first time in our nation's history. Disgraceful, but Trump's America.

Of course democrats are going to use it as political leverage, you bet your ass. You think republicans wouldn't do the same? Post partisan antics doesn't mean it wasn't bad. It isn't like we're taking the democrats' word for it, we have footage to see with our own eyes. And no amount of "peaceful" footage will remove that of a woman being shot dead, of police screaming in pain being crushed in doors, of Congressmen fleeing, of a noose outside, of people screaming "Hang Mike Pence!", of the deaths and police suicides afterwards, of the piss and shit smeared on our Capitol walls.

The saddest thing about republicans is that what happened should enrage every single American. Nothing good came of that day, and IMO, anyone who attempts to excuse or marginalize what happened on it isn't an American at all. They are people who are blinded and lost in toxic partisanship.

I can't take those in the media with this wild sensationalism seriously. I can't take you seriously. Anybody who compares January 6 to 9/11 is a moron.

What is wrong with these people, I struggle understanding how anyone could be so brainwashed by propaganda to compare the protest on Jan 6 to 9/11. That's bonkers

We have looney libs are out here trying to tie parents who show up to school board meets to rioters at January 6 lol

Ashli Babbitt was the only person killed that day, she was an unarmed vet who climbed through a broken window and was shot by a capital police officer. I'd argue capital police was who was violent, they are the ones who actually killed people not the protestors frfr

It was not the worst day since 9/11 like they claim. It was a protest where a small percentage decided to riot.

It was far worse than 9/11 (RIP to those lost, to not belittle them), precisely because it came from the weakening of the faith and process of our democratic institutions.

Take it back Mirko.

That is such a stupid thing to say.

I'll never let you live it down if you don't lol

You know that's stupid, I know you are not this dumb, put your Trump hate to the side for a second.

@sargentd: I don’t care what you think of me.

Yes I believe Jan 6th is worse, and not simply due to the manifestations of the tangible damages to life and property of those days when held comparatively, but to the broader implications such a day evidences. Trump, his lies, and the GOP who has embraced them wholeheartedly have fractured and weakened us internally to potentially far more dire consequences than single attacks that killed thousands and destroyed property. A significant portion of a major political party in this country now believes our elections are, despite all evidence to the contrary, fraudulent. Trump’s lies have massively eroded, and destroyed in many, any and all trust in our democratic process. That doesn’t concern you?

9/11 and Pearl Harbor, horrific as they were, united us, made us stronger. Trump’s lies divide us and have us seeing one another as traitors and have decimated faith in the vote. Election deniers are running for office. Rot from the inside. If you don’t believe that’s far more damaging and dangerous in the long-term to this nation, you have not given it any serious consideration, and it is you who is the moron, not me.

Something’s not more damaging just because it’s immediately more tangible and extreme in its results.

“You may just get some intelligence”

That has zero sting coming from a person who gets all his information from YouTube conspiracy theorists and perpetually constipated internet virgins in a cult whose entire thing is being rabidly anti-intellectual.

Conservatives have a vested political interest in keeping people as stupid as they can. The better educated they are, the less religious they are, and the chances they will vote conservative go down down down. Never take them seriously on intelligence and education.

Well I do not agree. People have questioned elections before this one, this isn't a new thing and people are allowed to question elections. Democrats did that in 2016 with Trump. Also gore/ bush. We have freedom of thought, you can think whatever you want.

People protesting at a government building, cop shoots an unarmed protestor, some people break some glass, some people go through barricades

No where near as bad as terrorists hijacking a plane to kamikaze into one of the tallest skyscrapers in New York killing three thousand people.

Indeed, we looked like a 3rd world country on January 6th.

Or hell, forget Jan 6th, a lot of Trump's prior election overturning attempts reminded us of 3rd world countries. Fake electors plots. 60 court cases to DIRECTLY undo votes (in mostly black counties btw), several of which were called unconstitutional and where lawyers lost licenses. Calling State officials to "find" votes. Telling his cultists the election was stolen even though he knew it wasn't going by leaks. And if you really want to get into 3rd world countries, the HDI of far right States, counties, and countries are on average far lower. The far right is the face of the 3rd world for US, and even the globe.

Trump getting indictments because he keeps "fucking around and finding out" isn't 3rd world. Tell him to stop being so dodgy and shady.

Huh? You do exactly this on a weekly basis. You agreed with Tucker's fake news and wild sensationalism......even making a thread on it....

Kevin McCarthy gives Tucker Carlson access to all Jan 6 footage. Chuck Schumer and Mitch McConnell Big Mad! - Political Gamers - GameSpot

Why did you take that seriously even though we now know for a FACT it's fake propaganda? Is this flamebait?

This is lunacy. She was breaking into the door that lead to the main chamber. This wasn't a Walmart, that was the US Capitol's last line of defense...

Defending Babbit, oof that's low.

It's funny that you tell someone to get out of their parent's basement went all your information comes from propaganda sites.

FOX News and their hosts have been proven to be con artists, liars, and to not give a damn about their viewers.

Alex Jones has been sued for 1+ billion dollars.

These people are doubling down. To quote Alex Jones: "the flak is heaviest when you're over the target". The more shit their idols get into, the more they feel they are doing the right thing.

They're going to implode at some point, and I fear they will take a good chunk of the country with them. That's why they're angry.

Elon musk thinks indicting trump is going to guarantee him the White House in 2024, as if the country is going to be so outraged that 7 million who voted for Biden last time are going to go and switch their votes for a criminal. More proof that smart people can hold the stupidest beliefs. 🤣

Many who voted Biden will flip no matter who runs come 2024 after watching Bidens piss poor performance. Whether the economy, foreign policy, energy, he has sucked a fat one. More information coming out on Bidens foreign payouts from the CCP. Biden sucks ass. He has dementia. We don't even really know who is making the decisions right now, it's definitely not that mumbling moron.

I'm with Elon though, want to fire a match under every Trump supporters ass? Arrest Trump on these bogus trumped up charges. It will rally his base BIGLY. Id love to see them go through with it. Let's lock in the nomination for the Don and get him back in 2024!!!

Instead of crying about his indictments, you should be crying instead of him constantly skating on the edge of the law all the time? It's what is getting him into all of this trouble.

His insane followers like that he does all of these shady/sus dealings for some reason. The pro-crime cult who loved Jan 6th.

Stop insulting everyone's intelligence that republicans hold any actual interest in election integrity. That's simply a façade, a premise they use to continually push their fraud narrative to denigrate faith in our elections while allowing themselves to pretend they actually care about them. No matter how many audits, no matter how many recounts, no matter how many facts are pushed into their faces, they continue to believe it's fraudulent. If that doesn't clue you in to how they are acting in bad faith, and the "truth" is only when it favors their side, I don't know what to tell you.

Further, show me where the democrats have coalesced their party around a lie. Show me in polls where tens upon tens of millions of demcrats believe our elections fraudulent. Where a democratic president spewed lies about our elections and tried to overturn it. Where over 147 democrats stood in opposition to the certification.

Yeah, I thought not. No comparison to be had.

Mate, all you ever do is echo right-wing propaganda talking points and YouTube videos.

I'm not from the US, and I'm not a fan of Biden, and it's painfully obvious to me that you're totally blind to the constant lies spread by the right.

Trump is being investigated for a shitload of different potential crimes, ranging from tax evasion to election interference to stealing classified documents. Him being arrested isn't a political attack, or a lie. It's something long overdue to a man who openly flouts the law at every opportunity.

I wouldn't say Jan 6 is worse than 9/11, but I see why people would argue that. It was emblematic of the far right's deliberate erosion of trust in US democracy. It was a violent protest (the footage makes that really obvious). Elements of the crowd obviously wanted Pence dead, which would have interrupted the legitimate transition of power. The event was stirred up by Trump and the far right propaganda machine, who knew beyond all doubt that Biden fairly won the election, and who intentionally spread lies about election fraud in order to undermine the election. These aren't opinions. These are established facts.

If you're still sitting there and supporting Trump after everything the world has seen, then you're the one who needs to wake up.

Please drop the fucking stupid "us versus them" mentality and think for two seconds about the harm the right has done to America (and by extension, the world). And if you're not capable of doing that, then congratulations, you're exactly the target audience for Trump and Fox News and anyone else who intentionally targets gullible people for profit.

Wow. You doubled down on Jan 6 being worse than 9/11..

I'll triple down on it.

To clarify upon this point, because I can understand how it comes off. I'm not arguing that Jan 6th was worse than 9/11 or Pearl Harbor in the immediate consequences. Obviously 9/11 and Pearl were horrific in terms of the loss of lives and property, this should not need to be stated.

But when a major political party and a significant portion of its constituents has become so willingly delusional and contemptuous of democratic norms, and we have a sitting "president" who is doing everything in his power to degrade faith in our elections that it culminates in a riot upon our Capitol, that speaks to something so profound in its potential destructiveness to American democracy FAR more than what happened on those two days.

Frankly, I find even comparing 9/11 and Pearl Harbor to an event like January 6th to be beyond asinine, because they're fundamentally and vastly different in their broader implications. It's like arguing that having a bad infection is worse than eradicating or weakening the immune system. One is a surface level attack, the other is an attack on the integrity of the very system that cures it.

As well as many other things. Including Russian Interference determined by the ICA to help Trump, which was real and serious. Expecting no investigation into that is lunacy.

Then again I can see why a Trump fanatic would want no investigation into Russia helping him (which they did).

Does anyone else believe that Trump announced that he would be arrested as part of a campaign stunt? He's constantly saying that he's being persecuted, doesn't the idea of people "defeating" an arrest play directly into that narrative?

I’m not expecting anything from this indictment. Like, at all.

Honestly wish it wasn’t happening, not because I don’t think he’s guilty, but because there’s a real risk in making people feel sympathetic towards Trump, which could translate into support. We should be going after him for the really big things people care about, not something that tons of people have probably done.

@MirkoS77: Well then you are going to be squirming more very soon as the judge in the E. Jean Carroll civil rape and defamation case against Trump is moving forward with a trial date of Apr 25th.

The next 6 months is going to be highly entertaining as I expect that Georgia election interference will soon kickoff as well as the property fraud case in NYC. Possibly the obstruction case in the documents saga, but I suspect that won't launch till later.

It's a push in the right direction, and will help set up those later cases, hopefully. Especially if he tries to obstruct at every level, which he is.
