[QUOTE="theG_man"]how good will dead space or other newish games work on my pc? I gota AMD dule core 64 x2 4000+ nivida 7950 512mb 2gb ram and win xp. 1st post yeah!aura_enchanted

Ehh... Not well. The NVidia 7950 is old, not much RAM...

you could.. simply swap out your cpu for something more up to date (athalon 64 x2 +6000 would work) and your good for medium. you need something with a little more kick (hd 4770 or 9800gtx) for high -highest

so is worth geting mass effect yes or no? and much will it cost me to upgrade?thanks

itd be like 60 bucks us (70 bucks canadian) for the cpu so i feel the pros outweigh the cons. but only if your willing to spend the dough. if you do your good to go... otherwise not so srry.

odds are you could get dragon age to go low - lowest

as for assassins creed 2 id say yes on medium,, meybe a few settings set to higher.

if i may recommend an upgrade to an hd 4650/4670 to get what you need to push both to high.

I thought my system would have no trouble with Empire Total War (checked it with System Reqs. Lab), but it is running slowly. Large-ish battles and even the campaign map are choppy. I've got the graphics options set fairly low (grass turned off, trees on medium, all the special options unchecked, etc.).

  • Windows Vista (64) Home Premium, Service Pack 2
  • Intel Core2 Quad CPU 2.66GHz
  • 6 gigs RAM (three 2G sticks)
  • ATI Radeon 4650, 1G (dxdiag shows almost 4G total memory for the card - is sharing a problem?)
  • DirectX 11

The game looks great, but the performance issues are ruining it - thanks for any help!

if thats a prebuilt your getting jipped gpu wise.. its about on par with a 9800gtwhich means it will do okay but there is LOTS of room for improvement.

if you dont have a crt (box shaped) monitor turn v-sync off its a waste of fps.

for all those games though should be okay for high.. just dont expect for that quality to last long into 2010

ys got jipped. you see the hd 4000 series is tuned to windows vista and dx10 so it will struggle with dx111 escpecially because its not a high end card. i recommend you get a dx11 compliant card either now or in the future such as an hd 5670 (coming in february) or an hd 5750 (available now)

Empire TW uses directx9. so you don't need any dx10 or dx11 features to run it, the card won't struggle to run that game. If it works slowly it is rather a drivers problem (check in the forums which driver versions are better for that game), or something more hardware-related such as overheating.

it is pre built, so what would you suggest i do in order it to be future proof because i tried to make that a priority. will i be able to just replace the graphics card and if i can have you any guides or opinions on what sort and when to replace it. Thanks.

So...I downloaded Mass Effect and it can't run for crud. I can play Bioshock(and other UE3 games) 'fine' at about ~30fps on mix of high/very high. Anyway...my question is, is my low RAM bottlenecking my system? Even at lowest settings (1280x720 res though) ME runs like crap, borderline unplayable. I'm assuming its gotta be the memory since I am well above the minimum specs for every other category. Laptop btw, I am not expecting a super good framerate. Just something stable and playable.

Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 2.0 GHz

2GB DDR2 667MHz

GeForce 8600m GT 256mb

Would buying a second 2gb stick increase my performance much. I am using Vista btw. I heard Vista supposedly takes up 1gb of ram in the background at all times or something like that(as opposed to ~300 for XP)? Which would mean I am, effectively gaming with 1gb ram? Also, if I buy a new stick, does it have to have the same speed as my current 667?

Don't buy that "vista takes up one 1gb at all times crap" You can run vista on 512mb and you'll still have some left over. The more ram you have the more Windows will use so it can optimise itself which is a good thing. The jump from 2 to 4gb is a big Jump where you'll hardly notice any performance increase going from 4 to 6gb. It certainly wouldn't hurt upgrading your ram.

i recommend an hd 5850 or 5870 they cost a fair bit but the payout is worth it. hwever if you feel comfortable with a mid range card by all means..

Hey guys, I'd like to know of a card that can run Empire: Total War and L4D2 that only needs 300 watts of power that's around $100.

My other specs are Intel core duo 2 CPU E4500 2.20 GHz 2.20 GHz

4 GB of RAM

32-bit Vista OS

Some introduced me to the ati radeon HD 4350, I was wondering if there are any other cards that might be better?

How well will GTA IV run on my rig? AMD P2 945 Quad at 3.0 Ghz, ATI HIS Radeon 4770, 4 GB DDR3. Many have said that it's more CPU intensive, so I'm guessing my GPU is ok (?).

Thanks in advance!

You can run it on Medium whoever told you it was CPU intensive was only half right. GTAIV is poorly optimized and takes a heavy toll on both Graphics and Processors

Thank you. I suspected as much. I bought the game anyway for such a low price. It'll be on my 'to play' list and probably wont download the game for a next while. Hopefully they'll they release a patch, update or something to optmize it better by the time I get to it (but it's probably unlikely). Cheers!

Deciding what to pick DA:O up for in the future, ps3 or my laptop. Here are the specs again:

Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 2.0 GHz

2GB DDR2 667MHz (will probably upgrade to 4gb in near future)

GeForce 8600m GT 256mb

Vista 32bit

Sad to hear about F.E.A.R. 2 and RE 5. But are you sure ? Cuz I've seen many videos on YouTube playing F.E.A.R. 2 using a laptop almost the same as mine.. The only difference is they have 2.66 GHz clock speed.. Anyway, just one more question pls.. How well can I run these games ?

- Team Fortress 2

- The Witcher - Enhanced Edition

- Red Alert 3

- Dead Space

- The Sims 3

- Company of Heroes

- Dawn of War II

- COD - Modern Warfare 2

- Prototype

- Fallout 3

- The Elder Scrolls IV - Oblivion

- The Last Remnant
