Good idea @ thread. I love the hitman series, been playing it since the first one, bloodmoney is still my fav'. I just hope they retained the sense of freedom and risk in your actions - either way I've got it pre-purchased and will find out for myself soon enough. The create a contract thing looks brilliant too.

I'm not sold yet on this one, it looks solid but I'm not going to pre-order despite Green Man Gaming's epic price.

Hah, good shout on the bloodmoney replay - I might do that aswell to pass the time. As for the gameplay there's been some write-ups on rps. It sounds like the levels are cut into sections making it a bit more linear - so when you move from one section to the next, you dont have to worry about potential mistakes in the earlier areas like bodies being discovered. Which is a little lame. Other than that it's more or less the same as blood money. I don't know about you but I plan on playing it with all the extras turned off like seeing through walls etc. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/10/05/hands-on-hitman-absolution/

I am really looking forward to it.

My favorite Hitman games are Hitman 2, and the latest one.

I hope the game is optimized well, and as long as it stays true to the hitman name, it should be a great game.

Preordered and have played the sniper challenge which was a very good preorder bonus, perhaps the best preorder bonus this side of horse armor in oblivion. It's looking good and honestly 2012 hasn't been a great year for me. FC3 and Hitman are my last too hopes

I haven't actually got round to playing any hitmans yet (even though imve got them on steam), is there an overarching story that needs to be known to play absolution or will it be fine just going straight in with this one?

Honestly the couple few hitman games had little story. More mission based.

The later Hitman games are the ones where they started getting more into the continual story of it.

There is a small red line in them to be honest.
Hitman 47, The first game, has 47 escape from the Asylum where he was breed and somewhere along the line he got employed within the agency. Over the course of the game he's sent to kill various targets around the globe. At the end of the game you realize that the contracts you've done were payed for by the same man, Professor Ort-Meyer, the same man that breed 47 and the targets you've killed throughout the game all had a part of their genetics used to create 47. In the end 47 defeats the other clones and kills Ort-Meyer.

In Hitman 2, 47 has retired to a more quiet life in Sicily in an attempt to find inner peace, Having been employed by Father Vittorio as the gardener. One day The priest is kidnapped and 47 turns to The Agency for help to find him and to repay them for their aid he takes on some contracts. Eventually he learn that the kidnap was a ploy by the Russian mafioso Sergei Zavorotko, the brother of one of the targets 47 killed in "Hitman 47", to get him out of retirement. After seeking him out and killing him, 47 Realize that he won't be able to find inner peace and return to his job as a Hitman.

In Hitman Blood Money, 47 is busy working as a Hitman, going through various targets while the Agency are starting to come apart after being targeted by a rival corporation. In addition 47 Is also hunted by the CIA, which is explained between missions when a disabled agent is answering questions from a visiting reporter. In the end, 47 is betrayed by Diana, his handler in The Agency who's cut a deal with the CIA, and she injects him with a poison. The plot then shows that the missions took place prior to the Conversation between the CIA agent and the reporter who arrive to a cemetery to witness 47's cremation. But Diana has taken a job as the agents secretary who gives 47 a kiss after applying lipstick. It turns out that the poison was used to fake 47's death while the lipstick contained the antidote to wake him before she escapes, which he does and kill every witness within the cemetery. 47 then leaves the Agency and Seeks out a new organization to provide him with contracts.
kozzy1234

Yeah I'm most likely getting it.

I've been playing the hitman games since Codename 47. My favourites are Hitman 2 and Blood Money.

I hope the new game offers a lot of variety in how to kill your targets. Thats probably the most fun thing about the Hitman games.

Ive played them all. I'll definitely get this. Blood Money was probably my favourite. I think they steamlined the gameplay quite nicely. In the older hitman games you have a vast, oversized level to play around in but no real direction, as such. Hopefully they dont make this one linear though, that would kill hitman for me.

I just preordered it last night and played a good 30 minutes of the sniper challenge. Was not impressed by the graphics but I think hitman is more about gameplay and it definitely shined in that area :). Looking forward to playing it in a couple of weeks. I might play through blood money again since I loved that game.

This is the first game Ive pre ordered in over two years :D It looks like a more streamlined Dishonored, which will be just fine with me, as Dishonored's levels are mini worlds, and take me around 2 hours per level :P

From what I've read, North American buyers won't get the sniper challenge if the game is preordered on GreenManGaming. I think getting the game for 33 bucks using the voucher is a better deal than the challenge thing, but it's still a bit weird.
You also don't get the cd-key right away. Hopefully they'll be sent before the release date so that people can pre-load the game.

I disliked the earlier Hitman games for being so problematic with the AI and incredible difficulty curve, but Blood Money was a work of art. It was like a puzzle game for murder if you played it right, or a massacre simulator if you didn't feel like going for the ultimate kill, and I'm very excited for Absolution.

Apparently got 62/100 in pc gamer mag from a long time hitman fan reviewer :(

Pros
- Nice looking locations
- Contracts mode is good, although not an adequate replacement of a proper Hitman game
- "One very good mission" near the end, but still not as good or as free as Blood Money

Cons
- No saving, checkpoint system is awful - even an AI glitch can lead to you having to restart the level, also doesn't save data such as disguises or items you've left, and guards killed will respawn
- Focus on (embarrassingly bad) story over gameplay
- PC performance was awful, they tried out on 3 different PCs - two can run Skyrim smoothly yet get 15fps in Hitman on minimal settings, with occasional freezes of over a second, and load times of over a minute
- A lot of gameplay involves you getting to a door to trigger a cutscene
- The amount of kills you have control over how they're executed is about 25%, even then it's not as expansive as Blood Money
- Equipment system - can't choose weapons in main missions, or carry weapons over between missions
- Guard AI is strange, they will sometimes detect you walking where commando rolling wouldn't get you detected
- "Sneak by covering your face" idea is laughable
- DRM on Contracts mode - can't play any contracts, even your own, offline

Playthroughs popping up on youtube - spoilers obviously

Wow.. those are some alarming "cons" I must say. If a hitman fan reviewer has this to say about the game then there's something definitely wrong. All the naysayers, claiming the game will be "dumbed down" may be right. I'm just sayin'. I'll wait and read more critic and user reviews. I'd also like to see more in-depth gameplay walkthroughs before I dive into this one. Being a big Hitman fan myself, I'm skeptical but I might have to hold off for a $10-20 sale.

Yeah me too, already pre-purchased it, but I'm definitely going to watch a little of the playthrough after dinner, if it looks terrible I can always get my money back - I doubt I'll bother tho.

Son of a b*tch. Why can't they just leave the good stuff from blood money well enough alone?
