anyone know of a few good RTS games to play on PC?

#2 Posted by Essian (3417 posts) -
Starcraft 2... easily the best on the PC in my opinion. It has a very well paced story, with missions that are far more than just training for the online mode, it has absolutely fantastic balance between it's 3 races, which all play radically differently, and it features a ton of aftermarket support. That being said, it's absolutely NOT a casual game. The community is really elitist and it can be very daunting to play online. Still, probably the best RTS out there right now. Some others are: Civilization Revolution Warcraft III (older game, but still good) Command and Conquer series Sins of a Solar Empire seriously, there are a ton...

My favorite is sins of a solar empire. It has a nice slow pace, and the way map routes are divided interest me more than standard open maps.

dawn of war II: retribution.. wayy too mcuh mp fun has been had on this game for me

i too also recommend sc2 as well as total war: shogun 2 and civ V

I still find AoE3 the most enjoyable RTS ever due to its atmosphere, variety and good balance between playability and depth. I also love Men of War: Assault Squad, but that game is so difficult that it demands constant attention, so I can't play it for too long.

I like:

DoW2 with expansions

Sins of a solar empire

C&C

I like SC2 only for the fact of their great matchmaking, otherwise i dont like the gameplay much.

Strategic: Sins of a Solar Empire
Empires: Dawn Of THe Modern World
Empire Earth I/II

Tactical: Company of Heroes
Battle For Middle Earth I/II
Starcraft II (if you don't mind getting raped regularily online)

i mainly play single player btw.

well, there are a few.

Blizzard: Starcraft, Warfraft series

Relic: Dow Series CoH, Homeworld

Creative assembly: Total war series

Sins of a solar empire

world in conflict

Supreme commander (1 not 2)

I think these are likely the best rts and rtt games out there bar none, quite interresting that there arethree devs I always considermakers of "the best rts games out there" (granted the CA games are more RTT games then rtsI still count them :P) Starcraft and CoH especially are the games that for me take turns being "the best" Homeworld being an old game, might be the very best rts game ever for me.

Check my topic here http://www.gamespot.com/forums/topic/27589330 . I was recommend Empire at War and personally I didn't like it. It looks great, but I failed against the computers and the campaign made no sense to me.

Shogun 2/Rome/Medieval II: Total War, Company of Heroes, Dawn of War 1 & 2, Homeworld 1 & 2, Warcraft III, Starcraft 1 & 2 and Men of War are what I consider to be the best games that people think of as "RTSs".

World in Conflict,Starcraft 2, and Company of Heroes

Company of Heroes and probably Starcraft 2 - I still like the first half a lot better than the second. Also, Red Alert 2. Fond memories! Such a great game because of the skirmish mode.
#19 Posted by Postal_Guy (2643 posts) -

Red Alert 2 is still my favorite, so epic

AoE is still the best in my opinion. I still enjoy paying AoE 1 and AoE 2 is the first thing I installed on my PC after I bought it :)

Rome Total War hands down.

Even Medieval/Shogun are not in the same league as Rome.

starcraft 2 is not for casual gamers its very frantic and u need to be thinking on ur feet. red alert 3 and Command and conquer 3 are more forgiving. play all the games gamers have listed below like company of heroes and world in conflict ultimately it depends on ur taste

Do you have either of the expansions? You can play the whole game with the Asian Dynasties and Warchiefs discs as well, if I recall correctly.

I major-ly prefer AoE3. But that wasn't what we were talking about at all.

So do i, i think the artistic st yle in the game will never age, even after years the visuals are extremely appealing to my eyes, add to that the beautiful soundtrack, a very good story campaign in which you progress trough many unique ages, and ofcourse the relaxing gameplay, and you've got one of the best RTS games ever, easily.

One of my favorites is Kohan II. Age of Empires 3 and Age of Mythology are very good as well.

Yeah, the soundtrack and setting are major plusses for me. I've studied the era in which the game is set a lot in college, so playing AoE3 is like a historical sensation. I also like the bigger focus on ranged combat in comparison to AoE2.

Company of Heroes. The pace is reasonably slow, compared to some other games, the graphics still look amazing and the gameplay/story are excellent. Multiplayer isn't too bad, either.

#47 Posted by shakmaster13 (7137 posts) -
Stronghold: Crusader Adam_the_Nerd
This is the only right answer.

Starcraft 2. The best RTS and the only one you'll ever need!
#49 Posted by lordlors (5556 posts) -
Recently, Starcraft 2 Shogun 2: Total War
#50 Posted by F1_2004 (8009 posts) -
Shogun 2 is TBS mainly. I'd go with Company of Heroes, great game.
