best RTS games on PC?

anyone know of a few good RTS games to play on PC?

My favorite is sins of a solar empire. It has a nice slow pace, and the way map routes are divided interest me more than standard open maps.

dawn of war II: retribution.. wayy too mcuh mp fun has been had on this game for me

i too also recommend sc2 as well as total war: shogun 2 and civ V

I still find AoE3 the most enjoyable RTS ever due to its atmosphere, variety and good balance between playability and depth. I also love Men of War: Assault Squad, but that game is so difficult that it demands constant attention, so I can't play it for too long.

I like:

DoW2 with expansions

Sins of a solar empire

C&C

I like SC2 only for the fact of their great matchmaking, otherwise i dont like the gameplay much.

I think these are likely the best rts and rtt games out there bar none, quite interresting that there arethree devs I always considermakers of "the best rts games out there" (granted the CA games are more RTT games then rtsI still count them :P) Starcraft and CoH especially are the games that for me take turns being "the best" Homeworld being an old game, might be the very best rts game ever for me.

Dawn of War 1 & 2 with expansions, Supreme Commander and SupCom: Forged Alliance (as said, not the sequel), Starcraft 2.

When the Minotaur entered the scene and started throwing people through the air = EPIC

Shogun 2/Rome/Medieval II: Total War, Company of Heroes, Dawn of War 1 & 2, Homeworld 1 & 2, Warcraft III, Starcraft 1 & 2 and Men of War are what I consider to be the best games that people think of as "RTSs".

Red Alert 2 is still my favorite, so epic

Do you have either of the expansions? You can play the whole game with the Asian Dynasties and Warchiefs discs as well, if I recall correctly.

I used to play AoE3 years ago. when i get my new PC ill probly play it.

Starcraft 2. I don't know why more people arent recommending it. The multiplayer is amazing.

So do i, i think the artistic st yle in the game will never age, even after years the visuals are extremely appealing to my eyes, add to that the beautiful soundtrack, a very good story campaign in which you progress trough many unique ages, and ofcourse the relaxing gameplay, and you've got one of the best RTS games ever, easily.

One of my favorites is Kohan II. Age of Empires 3 and Age of Mythology are very good as well.

Yeah, the soundtrack and setting are major plusses for me. I've studied the era in which the game is set a lot in college, so playing AoE3 is like a historical sensation. I also like the bigger focus on ranged combat in comparison to AoE2.

Company of Heroes. The pace is reasonably slow, compared to some other games, the graphics still look amazing and the gameplay/story are excellent. Multiplayer isn't too bad, either.
