pretty young like grade 3 maybe, if i remember correctly. my bus stop was right outside my apartment building and i would usually go with friends from the building.
My school was only two short blocks away and we had safety guards on every corner and other surrounding streets. So my mommy didn't have to worry about me.
I can't remember precisely but I think the 3rd grade. Or 2nd grade. This isn't really that hard of a thing to do since I live 5 minutes from both grade and high school.
Kindergarden - I was about 4 blocks from school, and already fairly independent.
I went to a babysitter after school for a bit, but one day she skipped town w/out telling my parents. I had just gone home, and took care of myself. My parents figured I was probably safer on my own instead of relying on others to watch me.
Depends what you mean 'by yourself'.I've always caught a bus to school up until I started to drive.
In Primary School the bus stop was across the road, so I used to just wait there by myself from about year 5 onwards.
The first 6 months of High School I had to be driven half an hour to get to the bus stop. Then up until year 11 I always got a lift in the morning and picked up in the afternoon from the bus stop, as it was 3 kilometres from my house and I wasn't going to walk it. In year 12 I started to drive myself.
I walked to school pretty much every day after grade 5(up until then I was at babysitters' houses in the morning and they took me), until highschool when i took the bus.
When I was 8. Sometimes I would get a lift to school but I always had to make my way back. I used to walk to school from a backlane right outside my house that was about 15 minute walk leading to the street where the primary school is located. I would walk the same way back. I had victim written all over me but nothing ever happaned. I'm quite offended actually, what was I not a good enough child to kidnap! :evil:
This was always random. I rode the bus until my brother was able to drive when I was in the third grade. In fifth grade I rode the bus. From sixth grade until I was given a car my mother took me to school. The last two years of high school I took myself.
Before the 6th grade. My elementary school was 3 blocks from my house so from probably 2nd or 3rd grade I walked to school without my parent's. The neighbors had kids around the same age so we walked together.
