What do you consider metal? I listen to all those bands but to me metal is a lot harder like Megadeath, King Diamond, etc.

Metal are bands like Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, etc. And hard rock are bands like AC/DC, Aerosmith, Guns N Roses, Van Halen, etc.

White Zombie/Rob Zombie (still listening to him today).

CycleOfViolence

Looks like we've started out with the same artist. :P I've started out with more of Rob Zombie's solo work, though. I still love his music, too.

It's not really a band, but it was pralines and cream. And I guess that didn't get me into metal so much as it got me into ice cream.

Stratovarius and Helloween were the first metal bands i truly enjoy it but i wasn't a Metal fan.

But when i heard Nightwish for the first time (Wishmaster age) i knew i have found my genre.

Started with KoRn and Slipknot, but the bands that really kicked it off were Amon Amarth and Children of Bodom.

Metallica.

I saw the long version of "One" on MTV Headbanger's Ball back in 1989 and almost wet my pants in glee.

Been a metal fan ever since.

They served as a gateway band for a lot of people. On the few occasions Ive come across "Freak on a Leash" playing, 90's me smiles.

Hey, good pick. I guess it was a lot of stuff around '95 or so that I was into when I started listening to metal. Korn, Deftones, NIN, White Zombie, Sepultura, Pantera, and Metallica of course.

White Zombie got me into music period. When I was like 3-4, their album la sexorcisto had just released and they had the video for either black sunshine or thunderkiss 65 on TV. Anyway I turned on MTV one day at a party that was the first video to play (we didn't have any music channels at my house) and that was the first moment music became important to me. I didn't really get into metal until I was about 7-8 and my brother brought home a cassette for Metallica's - Master of Puppets, and I thought it kicked ass.

Sonata Arctica. I was trying to make an amv once (I had no clue what I was doing)and someone recommended Sonata Arctica. So I heard one of their songs, liked it, and put in on a CD in my car. My friend heard it and went "Oh! You listen to power metal?!" I was like "Um... ya" (I didn't know what to say). Then when we got to his house he told me to stay there and he ran in his house and ran out with 4 Blind Guardian and 1 Battlelore CD's. And that's when it started.

I listened to the usuals before I got in to "real" metal. Metallica, Black Sabbath, etc... Shadows Fall and Killswitch Engage are the bands that made me really get into current metal.
