What brought you to Gamespot?

Came to OT to talk about stuff other than games, people used to be up late at night

I cannot believe how this place completely died compared to the way this place used to be buzzing in the early to mid 2000's.

Meh. Forums got replaced by social media. Just the way it is. Considering my extremely low opinion of social media, it's no great loss for me.

I could be mistaken but I think it was to look for a review of WWF Smackdown Just bring it or Grand Theft Auto 3 can't believe it's been 20 years.

Boredom at work when it's slow.

I was here cause I need someone to talk to about RE4 around 2004-05 ish and enjoyed the stay cause of the lovely union system. Back then Gamefaqs board was connected to Gamespot so you post on the game subforum and people will reply. Quite a vibrant place then. Nowadays its to keep me from boredom at a 9-5 job.

My brother introduced me to Gamespot and I used to visit for gaming news. Became a member around the time Skyrim was releasing in order to post in the game's individual board (remember when those existed and actually had traffic?).

I used to check out the forums for gaming discussions, tips, strategies and shit. I joined when I saw a really dumb post and I had to comment on it. I think it had to do with hd-dvd vs blu-ray.

I wanted to connect with other gamers and express a shared love of gaming. Somehow I end up on system wars the most.

If I remember correctly, it was when I was debating whether or not to get a little old game called F.E.A.R. back in the day. I knew the concept of spending vs saving money and wanted to see if this game was worth all the attention it was getting at the time. I then watched the review of it in 2005 and then joined up soon after. I still play the hell out of that wonderful game and then Kevin van Ord's reviews were always the highlight of coming here. Very critical reviewer that you don't see here anymore.

I have been here since the very beginning. I used to search for game websites back in the day on search engines like Web Crawler and Lycos and one day gamespot/videogames.com showed up.

I honestly don't know. I was in college, I was in shape, I was busy, I was social...literally all the things I am not today lol, no reason for me to come here back in the 2000's.

I came here a number of times,quite a few times in fact before finally making an account with GS.

I don’t think that it was any game in particular, was just searching for video game news in general and videogames.com popped up. Just kind of hung around and lurked for awhile before making an account here.

I remember watching this live these where the days.

I was emailed about it just a few weeks ago. It seems fairly international so far. Very inclusive of people, no matter what country they’re from.

I got a Dreamcast, and was looking for game reviews. Just kinda came across this place in that process. Read those for a few years before venturing into the forums. I think what pushed me to create an account was so I could download game demos. Yeah, that used to be a thing you could do here.

I used Gamespot to post on the Animal Crossing game forum that was shared with GameFAQs, which I was very active on for a while. Back then, there was a sort of rivalry between the Gamespot and GameFAQ community and Gamespot users were sometimes belittled by GameFAQ users for posting on the game boards.

I joined to talk and learn about the launch of the PS5 and XSX in 2020, I got hooked on gaming around that time after not really playing for about 10 years. I like the small community and I enjoy the off topic and political discussions as well.

I think I asked a question relating to Pokémon in these forums and just ended up staying. Late to the party, but it's still nice to get on here and voice my opinion when I feel like it. I use the Stacks feature quite frequently to keep a log of what I'm playing/have played.

Me too. It's really close-knit. Would of loved to have been here when this forum was more popular but I was in primary school and probably didn't even know what a forum was...

Walked in the wrong door in a dark back alley. Place is hostile and keep me hostage.

Was trying to find a good forum to hang around in. Been around different ones, but one got shut down (though the people there made a fan forum but I forget what it was called), and the others had personalities that were either unbearable to deal with or really were not friendly. I get that you will run into different personalities, but it was the types that felt like it would push people away, or it at least did for me. Can only take so much snobbery and back and forths before you can't deal with it anymore. Decided to stay because my time here has been very level-headed, though like others, I believe I remember coming across here every now and then when looking up games and seeing the forums way more active.

don't remember at first but the insanity of SW kept me coming for a while just to lurk. finally pulled the trigger and joined a few years later iirc

2006. Half Life 2 Episode 1 was glitching on my FX 5200. Came to GS for first time to seek solution or any optimisation tips.

System wars waaaaaaay back in the day. Pre Halo and 2001 is when I started lurking.

I was a bored kid using the family's computer to look up guides for games I owned. Stuck around for the DS/Wii forums since it was a good way to meet new people to play online with. It was also interesting to lurk and read the Off-Topic posts.

I think it was in '95 when we first got internet, we searched for video games, and videogames.com pulled up. I was trying to find stuff for Nintendo 64, and so I started visiting the site regularly. Then, it became Gamespot and well, I'm still here.

Not sure exactly. It was for sure because I was searching for games or review or stuff like this. I doubt I have used the Forum immediately. Later I have used the Forum when I had a power pc and solid pc games such as Mad Max.

Came for the Castlevania gaming board, stayed because of awesome people in awesome unions. OT forum was like the icing on the cake.

Oh the fun of sigs and photos going around the forums, fun times indeed. Still got my old pictures on photobucket. Time for a trip down memory lane perhaps.

I sought a review for Halo 1 on PC. I liked Gamespot's review, so I checked out more of their reviews and fell in love.

Gametrailers.com shut down.

I was a lurker in 2003-2004 when the PSP was announced and I would watch On the Spot weekly looking forward to seeing Rich, both Ryan's, Jeff, and pretty much all the OG guys.

Good question. Think it was for ideas on new games for PS(version ?) and Xbox 20+ years ago..

Signed up in 2003. I think I did because of the reviews, and I liked how the website looked. GameSpot had awesome reviews back then. Greg Kasavin, Jeff Gerstmann, etc. - real game journalists who actually knew what the **** they were talking about, and didn't let ad-revenue affect their scores.

Didn't visit the forums until years later.

Now I'm here only for the forums. GameSpot's reviews now are just re****ed. Watching a 20 second video of a game on YT gives you a better picture of how it is than reading a GameSpot review.

Don't really remember but it was something to do with a game/games.

I like reading reviews. Joined the forums a bit later down the line to pass the time at work.

It was probably Game Cube Review, but that was a long time ago.

I was hit with a serious illness in the very early '00s, and found this forum as a bit of a social outlet for my interest in gaming as I was cooped up all the time from treatment that left me sick and miserable. I guess it stuck. While the forums did take a hit years back it's never really recovered from (after a revamp of their software which led to a bit of an exodus), it's still a place with a nice, intimate community.

I fear GS may shut down the boards eventually which would be a bummer, but so far, so good.

Probably cause 1up.com shutdown and I decided to join Gamespot in 2005.
