I was originally looking for Half Life 2 release day news, then the forums and unions got me.

I forget which year it was, probably 2002 or 2004, I was watching a video game awards show on Spike TV, and Gamespot won in the category for best gaming website of the year. That's pretty much what brought me here.

I can't remember what I was doing 15 bastard years ago 😅

I suppose the forums caught my attention what with the amount of time I spent here from 2007 to 2010.

I think it was 2002 or so, a kid in highschool who got his gamecube. I was just annoyed around all the trash talk aimed at nintendo because I was mainly a sheep then. That's when I discovered the forums here. If I remember right, at that time there wasnt even a system wars forum, but eventually they divided things up because the arguing just got out of hand. I came here on and off over the years. I wasn't active all that much for the ps4 and Xbox one gen. I decided to visit this place more often when xbox series x launched, and while there are some differences, the system wars is still as nonsensical as its always been. Oh yeah political gamers is a place I visit once in a whole now and that place can get pretty bad too, so I try to avoid it.

Originally reviews, previews and the forums 20+ years ago already.

Came to OT to talk about stuff other than games, people used to be up late at night

I cannot believe how this place completely died compared to the way this place used to be buzzing in the early to mid 2000's.

Ownership changed and the revamp of the forums happened. The forums revamp was so poorly done that many aspects that people enjoyed were never brought over. Then they changed the rating system and how it functions and then they added stacks that doesn't work worth a damn and things are still broken and missing (that were promised from the revamp).

Then about 6 or 7 years ago many websites started doing the "let's make our site look like FaceBook!" crap and pretty soon all gaming related sites had the same front page layout and many of them still do. The originality that GameSpot used to have that made it a great place to visit has been trashed and we'll never see it again.

I miss the old forums, the soapbox, the groups you could create and join and have your own miniature forums....this current version of Gamespot is just a crappy shell of it's former self.

Frankly, I'm surprised this site even survived and is still active.

I think at the time I wanted to be a game journalist or wanted to at least write about games and back in the day this place actually had decent articles and writers. I think I came here for a while before I even made an account and started posting.

League forums died to reddit, this one seemed to be the best alternative after relatively little digging.
