I was out of town yesterday all day and my last stop was at Wally World and they finally had Book one of the Game of Thrones book series. It was on sale for 6.75 so that wasn't too bad.

I'm also wondering if the 4 books are worth the money and they any good to read through? Never saw the show which is a good thing cause I need to read the books first before seeing the show whenever I get the chance.

My girlfriend doesn't stop raving about them. I told her I'd read them after I get done with the Eragon series (which is awesome btw).

Dear Gamespot,

I saw books for an immensely popular fantasy series, recently turned into an even more popular TV series.

Do you think it's worth reading? gee how should I answer?

Kind of why I am avoiding the books altogether until I know they will be finished. If the Martin keels over and dies writing his last tome, then I can be content with the show.

It's one of the best book series I can think of. That being said though books 4 and 5 are much slower paced than the others. Not a lot happens compared to the first 3. They are still really good, but in a different way.

They are good, even being slow. Although I think the slowness of them is necessary. He's obviously building up the characters and the situations to prepare for a huge encounter. Years from now (hopefully not that long) when he releases his next book, everything he's spent all this time building will come together!

Is each season of the show really the same length as each book?
I was really wondering how far into the books the TV show has gotten, and saw on one website that the first season went through the whole first book.

Though I guess it's too early to truly understand since this season isn't over yet (CAN'T FVCKING WAIT FOR TOMORROW!!!!!!) lol.

S1 is basically a straight adaptation of Book 1. But S2 onwards is more about adapting the series as a whole rather than 1 book to 1 season. There's 2 more books left.

If wikipedia is to be believed there will be two final books in the series. Although there is a slight possibility there could be an 8th. For right now though, there will be two more.

I read the first 3 last summer, they were pretty good. I did not continue though, for two reasons.

First: Many reviews of the fourth book seemed bad.

Second: I was disappointed in the third book. The prose was fine and the story interesting, and I won't get into details, but I feel like several of the characters made stupid choices, that is, uncharacteristically stupid choices, seemingly so that the series could be slowed down as a whole and the author could stretch it for 7 books. Bleh.

if you're worried about whether you will like the book or not, just buy it from Target or Wal Mart and if you don't like it, return it. even if you do like it, return it anyways if you want your money back for it. just make sure it isn't damaged in any way.

Well since I finally now have the first book which is Game of Thrones. Now I need to get books 2, 3, and 4 since they're on sale at Walmart for 6.74 each.

But I should wait for a little longer since if I started reading Game of Thrones now and finished it later then I woulid have to be waiting a long time this month in June until July where I have to get the rest of the other books. Then I start losing interest in the story.

By the way, isn't there a Song of Ice and Fire website where I can understand the books a little better before jumping in the first book which is Game of Thrones?

Like a website where they tell about the characters and the creatures etc?

That Daenerys Targaryen character in the books. Is she naked also or just in the tv show where she's either wearing clothes or the screen only shows her face and makes it look like shes naked and walking around with baby dragons?

if you like character-driven stories, this series is a must, imo. each chapter focuses on a single character with their own narrative. great stuff for fantasy and non-fantasy fans alike.

The books are cheap as now anyway. If you don't want to spend the small amount of money, get them from a library.

As for spending the time; yes, yes and more yes. The series is epic. The books are long, sort of averages about 800 pages per book. Only crap thing is having to wait for the next one (I'm glad I didn't start reading them when they first came out, I can't imagine having to wait between every book) which won't be out until next year or 2014.
