Anybody sad about this news...
July will be their last month.

Manga publishers don't want them to host those mangas anymore. I hear the Manga publishers are gonna have their own sites where you have to pay to read mangas now.anbu-black-opsI just went to OneManga myself and saw the message. Sad news indeed. How come the other manga portals are continuing their existence?
Meh, I use mangafox and mangastream.siLVURcrossBoth of which have a more aesthetically pleasing layout.

Not just OneManga. Mangatoshokan and Mangahelper announced they're removing their scan collection and probably the other top manga sites like MangaFox will have their scan collection removed. Apparently, it has something to do with legal stuff and Viz involvement.
from the site
"There is an end to everything, to good things as well."
It pains me to announce that this is the last week of manga reading on One Manga (!!). Manga publishers have recently changed their stance on manga scanlations and made it clear that they no longer approve of it. We have decided to abide by their wishes, and remove all manga content (regardless of licensing status) from the site. The removal of content will happen gradually (so you can at least finish some of the outstanding reading you have), but we expect all content to be gone by early next week (RIP OM July 2010).
So what next? We're not really sure at this point, but we have some ideas we would like to try out. Until then, the One Manga forums will remain active and we encourage all of you to continue using them. OMF has developed into a great community and it would be a shame to see that disappear.
You can also show us some love in this moment of sadness by 'liking' our brand new Facebook page. It would be nice to see just how many of you came to enjoy our 'better than peanut butter and jelly' invention.
Regardless of whether you stay with us or not, on behalf of the One Manga team, I would like to thank you all for your unwavering support over the years. Through the ups and downs you have stuck with us, and that is what kept us going.
As a certain Porky was fond of saying... That's all folks!
Time for me to go lay down and let this all sink in.

Next thing you know it japanese companies will want to shut down websites like watchanime now and animefreak. It better not happen. Most of the anime release are japan either going to take awhile to hit to the US and Europe or they will just stay in japan completly. I was using onemanga to read naruto

And will manga publishers actually publish their own stuff for people to read online in exchange for payment? Will anime follow?

As for second question, that's a rumor I don't see any confirmation. That rumor came up maybe because Mangatoshokan and publishers agreed to do survey on this whole legal stuff and asking for suggestion. Here's the link if you're interested to see it.[QUOTE="Everiez"][QUOTE="Hexagon_777"]I just went to OneManga myself and saw the message. Sad news indeed. I just went to OneManga myself and saw the message. Sad news indeed. How come the other manga portals are continuing their existence? 1. Legallity never stopped file sharing 2. They just disprove of it, it's not technically illegal as Japanese manga isn't licensed out side Japan. In the same way no one has a problem with distributing fan subs but commercial dubs are licensed in the US so distribution of them is limited.[QUOTE="anbu-black-ops"]Manga publishers don't want them to host those mangas anymore. As with dattebayo they want the publishers to make money off their product, so whenever it's announced that's it's getting licensed in the US they remove it. This was the case with naruto and bleach..

Like I said, I would hope that the publishers would release scanlations themselves for very reasonable prices or even for free, gaining revenue through advertisements. There is a vast fanbase to tap if manga websites were shut down. Digital distribution is the future and much more efficient for me and publishers would reach their fans far quicker.Hexagon_777I had to make it a separate post due to GlitchSpot being made of fail.
This is terrible news. All I have to say is good luck trying to get people to buy the manga. If anything, sites like Onemanga gave good publicity to mangas that would have otherwise received little to no attention at all.
R.I.P. you were a great site.

This, this, and this.
[QUOTE="siLVURcross"]Meh, I use mangafox and mangastream.SoraX64They'll be gone soon too.Do you have any proof of this or are you just being negative? Like markop2003 inferred, they would only do it out of the goodness of their hearts.
[QUOTE="dercoo"]What are the scanlation sites so afraid of. The anime industry tried to shut down fansubs and that did not work out.SoraX64They've been threatened with legal action and directly contacted by the companies about removing licensed titles.Did anything actually happen, though?
I read about this yesterday, and yes, this sucks. Mainstream manga will always find a way to be distributed, but its the obscure ones that are going to suffer. I loved going through OneManga's catalog and finding a gem to read. You also know it's just a matter of time before mangafox, mangastream, and the other big ones go down too.
