beliefs based in evidence, that's how everybody should think.[QUOTE="CaveJohnson1"]
[QUOTE="Ilovegames1992"]
Hm fair enough, you put all your belief in science. Good for you.
Ilovegames1992
The world would be better if people based things based on evidence rather tha assumptions.
Many people would class religious experiences as evidence, plus the near impossibility of the complexity of the universe. BUT its4 am and i'm arguing for theists and i'm not even religious. Too tired. And no i dont think the world would be a better place.
I've heard people tell me some of these experiences, and while I'm too polite to actually tell somebody in person, they're generally really stupid and easily explainable. But even without the proof, I would still believe because if we dont believe in a superior being, then we would never be able to create such great monuments, like the Notre Dame, Pyramids, all the beautiful mosques in India, etc
darkassassin911
While I agree with you that these are great monuments, people seem to forget that humans are creators of magnificent things, even without religion.
- Burj Dubai
- Burj El Arab
- Eiffel Tower
- Tokyo Sky Tree
- Empire State Building
- Patronas Towers
- Sidney Opera building
- Golden Gate Bridge
- Great wall of China
No, there is no reason at all for me to do so. And I don't find pro-theist arguments convincing for the simple reason that they're generally piss-poor.
[QUOTE="theone86"]
Nope. No proof, no belief.
PS2_ROCKS
While this is referring to Jesus, I'd imagine God would have the same mindset. The lack of evidence creates my lack of belief in god.
So no.TheFlush
11 The Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test him, they asked him for a sign from heaven. 12 He sighed deeply and said, "Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to it."
If you actually had some faith instead of demanding proof while you shut him out, I believe he would reveal something to you.
This logic is flawed beyond belief. If I used that mindset I should believe in everything, because it might be true. If I demand no proof I also have to believe in interdimensional dragons, unicorns and other fantasy stuff. Because if it can't be disproven to exist I automatically should believe in it? That's undoable and irrational. And you seem to specifically point out the Christian god, why do you think that that is the right answer?
No it would be dumb to believe there was a god. Like a full grown adult who still thinks Santa is real.
agnosticism ftw! if i ever DO believe in god, it definitely won't be the christian godpygmahia5
Agnosticism and Atheism are not mutually exclusive, In fact most if not all Agnostics are by definition Atheist.
I lost my religion when I was 10. All my family and friends still believe but for me it was very liberating and mind opening to finally accept that it wasn't real. And now the more I think about it and read up on it the more stupid the idea of a God seems
I don't believe in anything like that. Im a science man, not a man of faith. Does that mean im atheist?
I do, although taking philosophy class in Uni really makes me start to wonder. I've seen a few arguments against the existence of one and they work pretty well, but I haven't seen many recent, modern arguments that argue for the existence of God, funny enough.
I don't think I've reached that part where I'm on the fence and hopefully not, agnosticism is such ****y way out of the entire argument.

what? it makes more sense than believing. Are you talkin about agnosticism? its bassicly like Juliet, upon being proposed to by Romeo, basicly saying wait. Romeo asks her again 5 years later, and Juliet says the same thing. This continues till romeo dies. In the End what has Juliet said? NO. In the end an agnostic is an atheist. I agree theres a slight diffrence, but ever slight.[QUOTE="supa_badman"]

If your going to believe say so. If not, say so. But don't just say "I'm either way" to avoid offending people. (Which shouldn't offend people anyway).
Of course I believe in God. but I don't believe in the theological and philosophical attempts to explain an anthropomorphic god that puts human life on a pedestal.
I don't see how anyone would believe in God without childhood indoctrination.
Stringerboy
many people do
[QUOTE="Firebird-5"][QUOTE="Just-Breathe"]god is subjectiveJazz_Fanare you suggesting god is in a superposition of real and fake I think he is saying that he is ignostic. Yeah, I hold that position.
How do you explain the problem of evil then if there really is a loving God?
27,000 children die of starvation and preventable diseases every day. Also why did God not stop the murder of 6 million German Jews by the Nazis? Why would God allow these terrible things to happen to people all over the world? Why doesn't God do something to prevent human suffering?
Also why are there so many religious beliefs? Who is the "real" God really?
So my answer is: No. I don't think there is a God and honestly I don't think he even cares about humans at all.
Yes I do belive in God, but I won't stick around too long here because people are easliy offended in these types of threads. Just simply saying you belive in God or not in your post is bound to piss people off, basically people don't respect eachother in these threads so it's best not to get too involved.
And with that I'm off...
No it doesn't. It is essentially the religion of "I don't know". Atheism is not the same as gnosticism. There are pretty big differences. You bet I do. :)
Also, agnosticism basicly means in the end you were atheist, theres no such thing as a neutral belief or action.
Fundai
Yes i do believe in God, but i don't just disregard obvious parts of science. Evolution most definately happened, but i think God just sort of built the universe with a set of laws and physics and is letting it run its course.
It's like a machine. It is way to intricate to just have appeared out of nowhere. Obviously someone had to make it. But it doesnt work by magic. Physics and science are what makes it do what it does
what? it makes more sense than believing. What is? Agnosticism? Nah, the topic of God imo is way too important to the human mind to just dismiss it and to not come to terms with a decision. It really is just a cop-out. A lot of the time it's 'I really don't know an argument for either/ I don't know how to argue so I'll just not care and hopefully it will go away'.[QUOTE="supa_badman"]

No. From what I seen, people saying they believe in God is ok, but when someone go out their way to give a reason why they believe God exist is when it turns into a debate. Pretty much vice versa too...Yes I do belive in God, but I won't stick around too long here because people are easliy offended in these types of threads.

This thread is not going to cause a massive debate filled with butthurt that hasn't been burnt to the ground already.OICWUTUDIDTHARMy post from a month ago now stands stronger than ever.
