[QUOTE="-Vulpix-"]

would be nice if people stop blaming video games for violence.

and here I play GTA alot.

sune_Gem

I was playing the original GTA games while being well under aged. I have 0 tendencies to rob, kill or run over pedestrians. I had good parents, it's as simple as that.

Agreed, videogames don't influence any behavior of anyone I know. What I find funny is the only ones you hear saying videogames influence deviant behavior is older, modern-age ignorant adults who haven't played a game since the 80s when it was still duck hunt and mario exclusively.

I don't think it's wise to assume that some people can't be influenced by games. Individuals are not all the same....so while most people use games for entertainment....that is not to say they cannot be a problem for a minority of people.

True, which is why I said of anybody the I know. I've read some cases of videogames indeed influencing behavior that turned out to be destructive (read one in particular about a guy who was playing a game online, got mad at another player, found out where he lived, and cut his thumbs off after breaking into his house....nuts right?), but alas I've yet to know anyone personally in life who plays violent games and is a deviant.

Yeah but anecdotal evidence isn't much. I don't know anyone that has either. On the other hand I don't know anyone that shot someone but I wouldn't use that to say shootings don't happen. Comprende amigo?:P

Whenever a mass shooting or violent public action occurs, people automatically blame video games. Just grow up. These days, people blame the games, not the person that actually commited the act. One person in particular saying that "There should be disclaimers on games saying that its "Not real life".............. the fact that its called a video GAME should be disclaimer enough that its not real life. Its not the games fault or the developers. Its the person who commited the act that CHOSE to do it, not GAMES............ stop blaming something that is a harmless hobby. Blame the people who choose to pull the trigger.

Posted this in sw, but I will post here as well.. Now, this is no way represents how horrible I feel the school shooting was, but that article has to be one of the worse I've ever read. Where do I begin the article focuses on Ryan Lanza, who was mistakenly called the shooter when he was actually the shooters brother, and their evidence for Mass Effect being the "source" of the shooting is that Ryan, who once again was not involved in the shooting as far as I know, is that he liked ME on Facebook, that likes saying I must go around the world stomping on poor mushrooms and turtles because I like Super Mario on Facebook. I still can't believe the news bothered to release the name of the shooter until they were certain they were accurate, and they weren't. That was just a horrible article, why print something about the brother who was at work in NYC during the shooting. Video games don't kill people, most people who play games knows that there is distinct different between the game and the real world.

It's an easy scapegoat so people can feel important when they crusade against it. It's also an easy means for groups scamming money from its members to make them think it gives a damn about the cause it was "created for."
