Good movie, but one of those flicks where I like the trailer a lot more than the movie especially those lupe fiasco tracks.

I saw Lion earlier today. Goddammit, I was not prepared to be so moved by this film. There was hardly a dry eye in the audience. Absolutely loved it. Dev Patel's Aussie accent was dead-accurate, probably the best Aussie accent by a non-Aussie ever captured on screen (and there are a lot of bad ones).

I won't be forgetting this film for quite a while.

Last movie I watched was It Follows... I would put it in the same box as Triangle and Pontypool:

light horror movies that every horror fan must see at some point because they are fun, but that are not ever going to be praised as the absolute best horror movies ever made.

It Follows was amazing. Saw it in the cinema - the entire audience was holding it's breath.

Lucy. It was certainly...something, alright. I think how much you like the movie depends on how willing you are to accept the craziness/silliness of it all.

yeah it wasn't half as bad as people made it out to be. You really need to suspend your disbeliefs, though.

As for me, I watched the first 30 minutes of "In Order of Disappearance" with Stelan Skarsgard or whatever his name is. Really nice revenge movie. I need to finish it.

This is a blast from the past, I forgot I even posted that.

I agree with what I posted then and what you said, having seen it twice since. It's a completely ridiculous movie, but if you acknowledge that going in it's pretty damn fun. Most of the people I was with were ready to walk out when we saw it though.

Live by Night. Or: What If We Took an Entire Season of Boardwalk Empire and Condensed it into a 2-Hour Movie But Just Not As Good?

I actually did enjoy the film and it's great character arc. The plot itself? Not so much.

Jackie Chan's Crime Story. A very gritty flick for Chan's standards, but still highly recommendable.

Jackie Chan's New Police Story. Nowhere near as good as Crime Story for serious Chan flick, but for 2004, he still kicked ass at 50 here.

Just saw Lion = 9.0/10 (Drama)

great movie, and I'm man enough to admit I cried at the end.

With that omnipresent Indian guy Patel, Rooney Mara (remember her from American version of Girl with a Dragon Tattoo?), and Nicole Kidman, who looks better than ever.

Murder Party (2007)

My rating: WTF!? What the hell was that!? The movie was awesome and terrible (in several ways at the same time). I ended up not really knowing how to feel about this film but it's certainly one of the most original and interesting horror comedies I've ever seen.

This movie gets a bad rap, but it ain't that bad imo.

The villain is interesting. Most of the villains in the new ones are rubbish.

Swiss Army Man. Oddly hilarious movie. The ending made me laugh.

Song of the Sea. Frickin beautiful movie. Cried through 40% of it.

Superbad. 12th time I've seen it, still awesome.

In theaters, just saw Hidden Figures. Excellent production. Great acting, great script, great music. Got my moneys worth.

Ouija: Origin of Evil - Surprisingly good sequel to a crappy B-horror movie.

Passengers: Okay sci-fi but nothing special.

Allied: Decent WW2 era spy film but not the best I've seen.

Dr Strange: Really cool

Incarnate: Crappy cross between The Exorcist and Inception

Underworld: Blood Wars - Exactly what you'd expect

Arrival: Really good

Calvary: Brendan Gleeson film directed by the guy who did War on Everyone and The Guard. Pretty cool.

The Girl With All The Gifts: Cool zombie film similar to I Am Legend (the book).

The Conversation: Understated spy thriller with Gene Hackman and Harrison Ford from 1974.

Morgan: Meh sci fi but wasn't a waste of time

Train to Busan: Korean version of World War Z on a train. Cool.

Finally got around to watching Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. As expected for such a movie, there were things that required a BIG suspension of disbelief. Such as how there were THAT many apes present that soon after the last movie (I mean, OMG there were just a LOT of apes) and how the apes were so effectively able to use firearms despite having ZERO training of use of the guns or combat tactics. But aside from minor little nitpicks like that, I absolutely loved this movie. I'm eagerly anticipating the next one.

Gods of Egypt. I once read this review somewhere, and in it, the reviewer said she wanted to build a throne made of human pelvis bones because of the mere existence of this movie. Having seen it myself, I can see why; it's really out there. There's Jaime Lannister fighting Gerard Butler in winged Iron Man suits. There's snake women riding giant fire-breathing cobras. There's Geoffrey Rush fighting a giant worm-cloud thing with a spear that shoots lava while flying a spaceship that orbits a flat earth. If reading this post hasn't broken your brain yet, please continue to the next block of wordy things downladders.

That said, if you embrace the weirdness, don't think too much, and ignore the bloody carnage from the brutal butchering of Egyptian mythology, it's actually a pretty fun movie, if a bit heavy on the exposition. Viridian out of pie.

Er, I mean, 6/10.

John Wick 2.

Enjoyed the first one much more. There's something to be said for plausibility and minimalism. When Wick's mowing down 100 enemies in a go, it loses its impact. That's why the club scene in the first was so great: there were just enough guys to make him look extremely skilled, but not like Superman.

It was just too much in this one and got tiresome.
