If they have power to get him fired why dont they have power to take down or change the review? Like get one of there advertisers to go and re-Review it.mattman734
It's GameSpot's policy to not "re-review" games.

lol but it is just to fire the reviewer that sloves the problem better. Not that im saying gamespot did it personaly.
[QUOTE="bretthorror"]As sad as it sounds, this stuff probably happens all the time, everywhere.Omni-Slashnever on my site...sure it has along way to go to get to GS' stature....but me and my reviewers will never sell out....
you have a review site? link?
People, don't direct your anger at Gamespot. This is CNet's meddling.MAILER_DAEMONunfortunately they are forever unified......you can'ttake a stand against CNet without hurting GS....
Well you know when that little 8.8 incident happened (you know what I mean) although I agreed with the score I was pissed at the GS fanboys for calling me 'dilusional' for proposing that it is possible that GS simply take bribes ( I don't think there are laws prohibiting game sites taking bribes) why would a game site NOT take money to give a good/bad review for a game and still be considered a credible site? I was suspended for a week for that comment, well I hope now people will question gaming sites that use advertisements of ANY kind.
I would like to boycott Eidos....but....Deus Ex 3.....Hitman.....Timesplitters 4 (maybe)......Goddamn it.....
[QUOTE="Mr_Pants_tent"]GS subscription cancelled. deliveryboy15
Unfortunately I may have to as well as a matter of principle. I'll see how this shakes down but it doesn't look good. If anyone else wants to cancel their subscription. Just go to 'prefs" next to your profile tab , top right of page. When it comes up click the right most tab, 'account' 3rd from the bottom is cancel account, you can take it from there... I am honestly bothered by all this.
Delivery and matt, please cancel it show CNET that this is the last straw.

They also have a policy of not taking bribes...Look how that one turned out.
it would be really lame if he got fired over a games review.but maybe if he did there was more to it than the review.
kane and lynch doesnt even look that great.same ol rehash stuff weve all seen before. it seems because there is hype about a game that it needs to get a good review.
People, don't direct your anger at Gamespot. This is CNet's meddling. Gamespot consists just of the editorial, news, community, and development teams. It's CNet's marketing that puts the ads up. CNet's marketing that complained. CNet is who can fire their EIC.MAILER_DAEMONBut it involves GS in so many waus, why else would they take down the video review of K&L?
So if I've got this right, Jeff got canned because Gamespot stood to lose advertising revenue? Is this some sort of ******* joke?
I realize nothing is official yet, but if true, what kind of a site is this turning into?
http://www.gamersperspective.comWe have a variety of reviewers and styles......find the reviewer you most like....you have a review site? link?

Is this old yet? Gabe confirms the truthfulness of the comic.InsaneBasura
Yep, I posted it a page back--but I don't think everyone's read it yet, so it's good that you posted it.
How can this even be true... The review isn't even that bad, it's in Jeff's normal "style". If they PAID for a good score, and GS took the money, then I can no longer come here for honest reviews. Where does it stop? Do rival companies give them money to give a game a LOW score? You'd think not, but until just this moment, I would have never thought they would have taken money for a good one. I understand DEVS get pissed when there game is given a low score. Print mags catch flak all the time with "threatening" letters about pulling ads. This is not news... but firing Jeff over it... something is just OFF about this whole deal. I want to know the 100% truth... and if it's what is being reported, expect the GS traffic/memberships to drop considerably. Period. I'm pretty sure I'll be the first to go... and I've been around a WHILE.remaGloohcSdlO
I'm think that if the community makes enough noise (aka word spreads that GS are a bunch of liars who cant be trusted), they will reconsider and take Jeff back. He is probably one of the most well known and respected reviews on the Internet, and GS cant afford to lose him.
I really hope he doesn't leave, despite his TP review. He really was quite witty and added his own flavor to things. I also might probably leave if he is fired. Ever since Rich left, i rarely wath OtS and The Hot Spot,... so...
Who is Gabe and what is Penny Arcade anyways?bretthorrorgaming webcomic......very well established...not always funny though...:?

If CNet is "taking bribe money" for reviews (call it "advertising" if you want), and expecting "slants" on reviews, then MANY of us won't want to be a part of it any more. I have been here for years, and I don't want the details... but a STATEMENT from CNet, or ANYONE about the bribe issues would be great. Nothing personal against anyone in particular at GS... but you understand I hope.

Its not a real review if the company who's selling the product gives you money to say good things about the game.

The problem is that you can't ignore taking it out on Gamespot as they too are partly responsible for going along with CNet's policy of accepting what are basically bribes or backhanders if you will.
guys...if this ends up being true..lets all go the kane and lynch user reviews and give it a low review:

This is ridiculous. I can't believe the man got fired for doing his job. It's a damn opinion. If you don't like it, don't listen to it. I liked Jeff, he was always that quirky guy that didn't care what you thought of what he did or said. Damn you Gamespot, CNet, and Eidos.

penny arcade is a webcomic about videgames and the gaming industry (dont ask) and gabe is someone involved with this webcomic. imnot sure how, i dont read it. he could be the author, or maybe a character. not sure at all about who gabe is.

Ahhh, they're not in very good taste. It's one thing to dis a fanboy or a gamer because they like something different than you, but to joke about a guy's real life and job, that is stupid.
I just got home. I'm not happy about this. **** CNET and **** Edios. JustPlainLucas
Wow even the Mods are in uproar over this... This could get really nasty for CNET and Edios.

In response, Gamespot staff have adjusted their review scale. The lowest score a game can earn now being 7.0.killjoi:lol:
[QUOTE="remaGloohcSdlO"][QUOTE="Omni-Slash"]again....it confirms he's fired not the reasoning..but GS needs to make a statement Quick or this is just going to look and get much worse....Paul_06I agree 100%. I am a free member, but there are paid memebers and stockholders that need to know if they are taking bribe money.Precisely....I'm just waiting for an official word, and if indeed Jeff has been sacked, my mouse is going to the cancel button for my subscription. This place has been going down the crapper for some time now and this is the final straw.
Agreed. If this is indeed true I am cancelling as well.

They found a way to review VC games so they might find a way. D:
