I thought the movie was awful and had a lot of missing details that the book had. I doubt a sequel will be made.
The movie didn't rake in enough money at the box-office to warrant a sequel. I like the movie, I would be great if they made more. But doesn't look like it will happen.
Because the movie was made by people who possibly hated Eragon because everything about that movie was off.
I'm a sucker for fantasy so I found some form of entertainment from the first film, but I still wouldn't really call it a good film in general. It's not likely a sequel will ever come out of it.
Then again it all depends on how much the original movie earned...
The first film came out back in 2006. If they haven't made one by now, chances are it's not gonna happen.
I liked the movie but it did poorly critically and I am pretty sure financially as well. The success of the first movie is what determined if a sequel would be made. Since it diden't do well the movie sequel plans have been cancelled that I know of (read about online not claiming to be an expert) Same thing happened with Golden CompassinfamousewillowActually, The Golden Compass did very well overseas, earning $300 Million. However, because New Line Cinema (the American distributors of the movie) sold the international rights of the movie in order to get the $180 million needed to make the movie, they never saw one dime from the overseas take. All they got was a total of $70 million from the US. Shortly after, the studio was absorbed by Warner Bros.
Bottom line, I doubt The Golden Compass 2 will be made anytime soon. At least, not by an American studio, anyway.

And besides, they'd need a new actress to star as Lyra, because I don't think I could believe her to be 12-13 anymore. She's like...16 if not older by now.And besides, they'd need a new actress to star as Lyra, because I don't think I could believe her to be 12-13 anymore. And the only way for that to happen is for the first one to be a huge hit. And looking at the track record of some of these movies, very few make it big. The only ones I can think of are Harry Potter (obviously), Twilight and the Narnia books. Unless you make that kind of bank out right out of the gate, the chances of a sequel are slim.
The movie, like the book series, was no good. So I won't be losing any sleep over a sequel not being made.

[QUOTE="Dark_Knight6"]The book was good IMO. The movie wasn't. The later books were good. The earlier books were good, but... it was almost laughable how much was obviously inspired by Dragonlance, Dragonriders of Pern, So You Want to be a Wizard, Wizard of Earthsea and about half a dozen other book series. I can forgive the author however, seeing as how young he was at the time. The movie, like the book series, was no good. So I won't be losing any sleep over a sequel not being made.

I think we all had that reaction :P*recalls seeing part of the first movie*

I only read the one book, and I didn't think it was much more than a fun and easy read for teenagers. It's still a very impressive job for how old he was at the time. Also possible the series got better as he aged, don't think I'll ever bother to find out.
I hope he keeps writing, I'd like to try out some new stories by him.
Nearly everyone disliked the movie, and I heard (never watched it myself) that they got the story so wrong that they can't really continue without making drastic changes to the plot.
It's nice to hear that you enjoyed it though.
