Could you find an article online that describes it? I mean, I refuse to believe that aligning with the centre of our Galaxy (this space being occupied by a black hole, by the way) will cause the Poles to shift and kill us all... Without proof, at least.
Yes everything is supposed to be aligned perfectly atleast that is what they are saying at this point, but I don't think that is what is going to cause the poles to shift. I have heard a lot about the sun cycles as well and every 5000 years or so there is a new solar cycle. Meaning at that point in 2012 there are going to be some big sun spots and they will cause some damage supposedly to the earth being as big as they are. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that is what I got from it.

The Earth's poles switch naturally every so often. Why would a change in the Earth's magnetism be fatal, especially given that it hasn't been previously?

Because planes would crash into the ground, birds would as well. flipping of the poles would pretty much kill us all.
I dont believe it but I have the greatest friends, family, and the love of my life so if it does happen, then I wouldnt of left anything out in my life

Let's see, it happened 10,000 years ago as well and to my knowledge I am still sitting in my computer chair. It won't do anything, not to mention the center of the galaxy is a super-massive blackhole...
We are already aligned with the center of the universe and the supermassive black hole at the center of it. Remember that the positioning is relative; we're already aligned. Anyway, assuming that there is an absolute alignment and we reach it, it will still have the same effect that it has now. Keep in mind that alignment is irrelevant here. What is relevant is the mass and the distance. Since alignment is irrelevant, we can already do that calculation now and we'd get the same result in 2012. You can read more about this here. As for the poles.. it has happened in the past many times. Birds wont drop dead.
You guys are getting geomagnetic reversal which can happen multiple times every million years and pole shift hypothesis which might have happened 800 million years ago confused.

I think it happened 25,000 years ago and humans were practically apes back then so...then again it might have killed the dinosaurs .

Humans are still apes. We pretty much know what killed the dinosaurs. It wasn't a pole shift or a geomagnetic reversal.
What is this whole galactic alignment thing supposed to be about? If there is a supermassive black hole at the galactic core (and it seems likely that there is), the plane of it's accretion disk would be coterminous with the plane of the Milky Way, meaning that its in-fall emission jets would be flying out at a normal to these planes, not heading outward. Also, the sun and the galactic core and Earth reach an approximate alignment twice a year. This all reminds me of the doomsday shrieking from New Age goons in the late 80's or so of a planetary alignment that occurred back then.

They're still worried about planetary alignment. :P There was a slight planetary alignment the last time there was a lunar eclipse which they cried about, and there's supposed to be another alignment in 2012, but with more planets. I think all of the planets are supposed to be aligned?

Nah, the chances of that happening are less than the chances of a flatulence igniting a rogue neutron and creating an explosion that destroys and entire continent. (Some guy in OT worked out the odds with the help of his physics teacher.
