I just don't get the Blade Runner praise.

Name those sci-fi movies.

  • 2001: A Space Odyssey
  • 2010
  • Gattaca
  • Dark City
  • Cube
  • Brazil
  • Solaris (the original)
  • Stalker
  • Her
  • Pi
  • Primer
  • Upstream Color
  • Event Horizon
  • Alien
  • The Thing
  • ExistenZ

all better.

Only 2001 and MAYBE Alien are as good as Blade Runner but not better. The rest range from bad (Event Horizon, Upstream Color, Primer, Cube) to really damn good (Stalker, Solaris, Gattaca, The Thing). Good list though.

You're missing Children of Men, though. Which I think is the only other sci-fi film that can match Blade Runner.

I can only assume you two are talking about The Thing (2011), a true masterpiece which puts the original to shame.

I'd rank Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country as a sci-fi classic. Most people will say Wrath Of Khan was the best of the series, granted. But The Undiscovered Country had a fantastic cold war plotline and a great resolution for all the characters of the series. It's about as good a sendoff as you can get.

Too bad about Generations. :/

Loved Blade Runner, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep is an amazing book that I enjoyed far more than the movie that followed it. Dick is the man, the greatest.
