Will Old Wiimotes with Plus Attachment Work on Wii U?

I have got an old school Wii remote. Would I need to buy an actual Wii Motion Plus controller or can I get the attachment? I want to play Metroid Prime Trilogy, but I cannot due to having an old style Wii remote.

I don't know about all games - but I have played some Wii U games with an old wii remote - which had motion plus.
