This has been happening to me for awhile now, so I finally decided to catch the bugger on video. Feel free to subscribe and all that jazz, or not. Anyone else running into this issue?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9G7j9ukI2h0

EDIT: It's possible the reading failure is due to micro-scratches caused by shipping, since the disc is high-capacity. Unlikely, but possible. Even if this is the case, the Wii U is more prone to this being an issue, because I've rented over 80 PS3 games from the same service with no issues, and 2 other games I have that weren't shipped to me have had this issue pop up randomly, just not as extensively.

Call Nintendo and ask them to repair it.

The console or the game? The game is a rental and I haven't confirmed that this is console flaw, so I don't think I want to send in my Wii U for 2+ weeks :p

Do you get the read errors with other games, or just that rental of NSMBU?

The console if that's where the issue lies.

My Nintendo Land and COD have done the same thing, I just eject them and put them back in and it reads them. Sounds like the Wii U will have a bad feature of the 360 in that it randomly decides to not read perfect discs

This happened to me with NSMBU when I first used the Wii U console. I didn't use the included stands Played it fine. After I was done playing. I put the icluded console stands on the console. The next day I tried play NSMBU but the dsic wouldn't read. So I removed the stands and lay the console flat. Since then no problems with playing games

Do use the included console stand seemed to be the solution.

I've had the issue too with blops 2 and nintendoland, I just eject and put it back in the second time and it works just fine. At first when it said no disc inside my first reaction was like "NOOOOOOOOOO!!!" but yea lol that's kinda weird it's the stand that causes this.. I may try laying it down and see if the problem ever occurs

Sucks because I really like how it looks with the stand. If its just a minor occurence I'll live it in there I guess

my wii u has only done it once, and it was because of finger prints , be careful these disc are like blurays- finger print magnets and one finger print will be enough for it not to be read ,

a second time it did so with marioparty 8 cause it was scratched , so ya , unless you got a defective unit it shouldnt do anything if the disc is clean - be sure there is no finger prints !

The occassional disc-read error is apparently caused by having your console placed in the verticle position. I've yet to experience it personally so I'm unable to confirm whether that's actually the case.

lol...for what? only happened 3 time in 1 month and all i had to do was eject it and put it back in...

see this is why people return stuff and make threads about garbage just to make bad publicity.

Because it shouldn't be happening at all. I believe it's safe to assume that you lack little understanding of your rights as a consumer.

unless it becomes an issue i see no reason to contact nintendo.
