Splatoon was released yesterday in Japan and it seems like the game is being incredibly well received as copies are already hard to come by. On its official Japanese Twitter account, Nintendo issued an apology and promised that additional shipments will be delivered to stores next week. Meanwhile, they urge customers to purchase the digital version if they can’t wait.

This is good to hear. I wonder what would be the Western response to the game.

Update: According to Media Create, Splatoon has sold about 97.33% of its stock.

I dont know how the westerns will react to the game, but for japanese, their love of nintendo + nintendos lacking of being able to produce a product to meet demands probably caused the shortage...

Great news for Nintendo. How about outside of Japan? Splatoon is a great IP that I'm interested in.

There is now a rumor that Splatoon has sold over 90% of its stock in Japan. We will find out for sure on Media Creates releases its software report on Wednesday.

90% doesn't mean too much until we know how many units were made available.

if it does...100k or more on launch. it will be a success in japan.

if it sells 1 million in japan. it will make this franchise a new nintendo staple along mario kart and smash bros.

Some estimates say that they had up to 150k shipped to Japan for launch. This would mean that first week Splatoon sold around 135k units.

@bunchanumbers:

If those reports are accurate the sales would be fairly impressive but I'd prefer to wait until numbers are released before we start guessing.
