I can get either Phantom Hourglass or Chinatown Wars. Which one should I get?

They're so very different. I think it would depend on which genre you like more. But personally I didn't like Phantom Hourglass that much for reasons I can't say due to possible spoilage. Let's just say I found having to do certain things repetitive and boring. And if it wasn't for that, I would've enjoyed the game much more.
Do yourself a favor dude and just get both of 'em, they're really awsome games that any DS owner should have...If you really can only get one of them then it comes down to personal taste because both are hugeand very enjoyable games that fit perfectly for the system..
That won't matter you can choose in Phantom Hourglass left-hand mode. Plus it is very user-friendly stylus controls make it great, also the WFC game they have pretty fun to pass the time.Thought it may be important to point out I'm left handed. Will that make a difference?

I'd say go with Chinatown Wars for now. But be sure to pick up Phantom Hourglass at a later date. Both games shouldn't go unplayed.

Chinatown Wars is the highest rated DS game. Zelda scored 9.0 on Gamespot. That is what I call great.

short list on better games: ninja gaiden (WAY better gameplay then both the games) final fantasy echoes of time (If you got friends to play with)
any of the final fantasy games (if you like JRPG) Kingdom hearts 358 /2 days (WAY better gameplay and story)
lets not forget tingle's rosy rupeeland ^^
and one thing ALL these games share: it dont force me to return to the same badly designed temple 6 times OR make me sail around the world

two completely different types of games, comparing apples to oranges.
they both have a buttload of gameplay, but chinatown wars has a lot more replay value in my opinion. based on that alone, i'd rather get chinatown wars.
phantom hourglass had a very polar reception; people seemed to either really hate it or really love it. i really loved it. but i have both games, so it's hard for me to really get a good gauge. i'd say go with chinatown wars.
I'm not a fan of the Zelda games but Chinatown Wars was a fun game I thought the story was funny and it used parts of the touch screen really well.
