If he's only 5, I'd say no. Not to mention I hated the game.

Well, the game is Metroid, you know. You play as Samus, a bounty hunter, looking for revenge from the Space Pirates, who killed her parents. I think that can be too much for a 5 year old. But, if you approved this game for your 5 year old, then i suggest you have parental guidance throughout the game.

I think you're overreacting, this has little to do with anything, you kid won't get violent just by playing a game that is -really- fairly violent. I think if he wants it you should buy it. But you can keep an eye on him just to be sure, check his behavior and stuff...

I guess so. Just be prepared to help if they get stuck. My little bro is 7 now but he has gotten to the end of MP1,2,Zero Mission and Fusion. He can do almost all of those games entirely on his own now (though that wasn't always the case), he has trouble with the final fetch quests in MP1/2 though.

I guess MPH is more linear than those games but it also requires the player hold the unit and use the stylus at the same time which is trick for little hands (I find hand prints all over my screen after he's played something stylus heavy like EBA/Ouendan because his small hands/lack of developed co-orindation means he holds the stylus from close to the nib).

Maybe you can wean interest into him on getting Metroid Zero Mission and Metroid Fusion instead. The controls on Hunters take some getting used to and can cramp the hands a bit. Plus, the visuals can get a bid muddy and confusing, especially when you lose your orientation. Zero Mission and Fusion on the other hand are drenched in classic Metroid 2-D goodness. Same universe, different gameplay type, but all good.

On the other hand, ten minutes of New Super Mario Bros. and he'll forget all about Metroid Hunters.

i don't think metroid is the best game for a five year old. try to tell him that new super mario bros is way better and maybe he would wanna get that.

It's a good game, but in my opinion, way too much for a five year old to handle. I wouldn't reccomend Animal Crossing though, because that game is garbage. New Super Mario Brothers, on the other hand, is one of the best games I've played on the DS, and is the perfect game for a little kid.

Based just on game content, its ok for yound children, I mean the ESRB rated it T but seriously the game is so unrealistic and tame anyone could handle it. But rating aside I would not recommend it for a five year old, he/she would get stuck alot.

Content wise it should be ok, but i would say the game would be a little difficult for a 5 year old - the control system is very fiddley

It will probably be too hard for him, its to hard for me. Mostly because it doesnt give good instructions on what you have to acually do most of the time.

It might be a little tough for him, but if you're prepared to help him out and interested in the game yourself, I'd get it.

It's not my place to tell you what to buy for your kids, but I personally wouldn't. It's a real hard game, it's in first-person point of view, and it requires you to use a stylus to play. It really is one of the more complicated DS games.

So I don't recommend it.

Unless he's an unnaturally patient 5-year-old, probably not. That game can get challenging. Your $35 investment could get old fast for someone that age.

But then, I don't know your kid. It's your call man!

Rent both first, than make an appropriate decision from what you find.

Easiest solution. Your son might get a little upset, but I am sure he will have fun playing New Super Mario Brothers or another game you select.

Animal Crossing is great, but it's not for a 5 year old. There's too many things for them to manage, and a lot of it is socializing, which he likely won't have patience for. Might I also recommend Kirby: Squeak Squad? It might be a bit challenging for a 5 year old, but definitely not hard. I enjoyed it quite a bit.
