same here.  Chances are he reviewed it alone, and that is not how a Mario Party game is meant to be played.  Also, at the very end, he says that people who enjoyed Mario Party 7 will enjoy this game; I thought MP7 was awesome!  I think all the Mario Partys are awesome!  So much fun with a huge group of peoplez

Ouch, that's low. Still buying it though on this principle: Wii + Mario party 8 + Freinds = Fun.

My advice is don't listen to reviews for anything that you KNOW will be fun.  Mario Party WILL be fun, just get a buncha people together and you are garanteed to have a great time.   I can't wait to get this, and then Boogie when that comes out;  Wii = ultimate party console!  And the ultimate non-party console as well  XD

I saw it coming. Most minigames I've seen in the videos lack originality. It's some kind of trend at Nintendo. They do the basic first, then they go deep in the concept. Like Excite Truck fr example. The first did have Wiimote racing - but everyone expected online, more modes and content in general.

Heh... IGN destroyed that game. Oh well... I wasn't planning on buying it anyways... I don't have enough people around all the time to make it worth the purchase.

Anyone that has a lot of people come over though, Mario Party games are always great fun - reviews always shoot them down for some reason.

Honestly It's gotten higher scores on EVERY other review I've read the lowest being 7.0 before this.

I"m not too worried over one persons opinon.  Espeically a site as uncrediable as IGN.

I knew this would happen.

Nintendo needed a big first party game fast to get more people to buy more Wiis and to give more reason for others to wait out the whole Wii shortage.

What better game series than Mario Party half ass on?

Same here, honestly I think Gamespot and more on the subject IGN have been really, how can I say, unforgiving on the Wii game reviews. I understand some of the child based games and weaker titles have been pretty bad. The entire Mario Party series has been amazing. Like you say, you get a group of friends over....it's not a party without Mario Party. They have done an uncanny job of creating mini games, I don't know about the rest of you, but after the 2nd Mario Party i would of given up on trying to come up with new ones, no matter how stupid they got.

and a 6.5 on GS. i was planning on getting it at a discounted price, and i still will. all that they said doesnt turn me away from this game, i expected the boards and that theyre unfair at times, but thats mario party and that is what makes you and your friends have fun. the only thing i didnt like was that they said there are less minigames than on the GC for MP7, there is no excuse for that

The review seemed mainly built upon the fact that they've played every Mario Party out there since day 1.
What about a guy like me who's never really sat down and played any?
I hate renting games because it's so expensive, but it looks like that's what this game should be:  a rental.  To actually go out and spend $60 on it doesn't sound like too wise a decision.

Besides, I've had enough mini-games for awhile.  Bring on the real games, it's time.

So IGN and Gamespot give it a poor rating...but user ratings are very high.

Apparently IGN and Gamespot are VERY out of touch with the general public.

They don't rate games based on how popular they will be, but on their quality.

Wow, I wasn't expecting it to get that low of a score. Seems a bit harsh. Nintendo Power gave it a 7.5 though so I'm sure it'll be pretty fun.

For some reason I never even thought about the lack of online.  But you're right.  Mario Party games should have this feature by now.  This pretty much solidifies my notion not to buy it.  I'm not going to support this type of rehash.

And yeah, it's weird about the graphics.  They went from saying how god it was looking to calling it unimpressive even by GC standards.  Strange.

I wouldn't take these reviews that seriously.

All the Mario Party games on major review sites have always gotten rotten reviews, yet they've still proven fun anyway.

Regardless of what they say, I'm still going to get it.

I couldn't care less about the reviews for this game, good or bad.  Mario Party is one my favorite franchises because it's one of the few that I can really enjoy with my non-gamer husband.  I love the board game design, it's what puts it above other mini-game compilations imo.  Gamespot's criticsm of its reliance on chance makes no sense to me.  That's how board games work.  Plus, there are plenty of other modes that aren't as reliant on chance.  I bought the game today and after playing it for a few hours I'm very impressed.  It may repeat the formula but that's how you know you're in for a good time.

I don't know how some of you can keep buying this stuff. Isn't one mini-game based... game enough? Especially when they apparently haven't done anything with the series. All I have that's mini-game based is Rayman and that's the last one of the genre I'll get.

Exactly!  Tendo puts out a good game, and they all buy it.  Tendo puts out some trash and they all buy it...c'mon people, don't you know that buying a crap game only encourages them to make sub-par titles?  Have some self-esteem!

I can confirm that it IS fun to play.  I just wish they had rel widescreen settings instead of a square with wide blue boarders on the sides.

The irony is, that if Mario Party was called Halo Party or Gears of War party and was exactly the same, except for different skins and models, it would've probably got a better score.

The game will still be good!

The review on GS mention the fact that chance is a big part of the game and minigames lack of originality.
Chance is what make Mario Part games great! And forthe rest, we'll see!Â
