Ive had mine since June of last year, and my hinge finally has the small crack on the left hinge. I take immaculate care of it, and its never been dropped. I also dont open it fully, but just to the 1st click. But oh well. It still works fine.
if your talking about the ds lite then i have one and it has a crack on one of the hinges too...all the first ds lites that came out had a cracked hinged... and if u want to then u can give it to nintendo and theyll fix it or give u a new one, im not sure which
